Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Loup is a lock for the bullpen - but we only have 4 realistic options (plus maybe Girodo) as lefty relievers so even if Mayza doesn't start in the bullpen he should get a chance at some point (along with Dermody). IMO unless we sign another then Breslow doesn't have to do much in spring training to secure the 2nd lefty role because if he doesn't make it we're down to 3 as he's unlikely to want to play in the minors at this point in his career. Though TBF if he does really suck in ST then we'll likely sign another low cost veteran lefty anyway. The point I'm making is that he'll make the team not just because he's "one of the only lefty relievers", but because he's really good and the bullpen is otherwise garbage outside Osuna. Here's what Abom's projection of the bullpen was back a couple of pages ago: Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Mayza Axford Not that Mayza is the difference maker, but he should easily be there over Axford or any other replacement (Craig Breslow is really bad) and he might be better than Loup.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Only the one but I specifically went and targeted him. He's gonna be the next Leone. I'm on Team Mayza too, Org, we spoke of his electric stuff in the GDT's. I really like him.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 I like Abom's predictions. Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Mayza Axford I think the bottom 3 could be replaced. I wouldn't mind a guaranteed deal to a good reliever to replace one of them, probably Barnes or Axford. I kind of like Mayza too.

Hopefully Mayza is good when he gets his chance, but he’s not guaranteed to be better than Breslow (or anyone else on the roster). It’s efficient roster management to give players without options a chance first when we’ll need multiple relievers over a season.

What do we think about Barnes? his 1st half was really good (10.3 K/9, 2.77 BB/9, 3.11 FIP), but he was hot garbage in the 2nd half. Did he wear down? or did hitters adjust? I never really thought of him as being on the bullpen bubble, but overall, he wasn't good last year when you look at the full package. I'd like to see him spin the ball a bit more.

Our rotation could be really, really good this year (if Sanchez is fit!).

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Over or under? Tulo plays 100 games for the Jays this season?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Over or under? Tulo plays 100 games for the Jays this season? Unfortunately I will comfortably take the under. We just have no reason to be optimistic at this point. At least we have built in depth this year.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Over or under? Tulo plays 100 games for the Jays this season? Under. Possibly way under.
polar bear Verified Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Over or under? Tulo plays 100 games for the Jays this season? Under is the smart answer.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 We'll see him in May Good. I'm honestly excited for the Diaz era to begin. What happens when Tulo is ready to come back and Diaz is destroying baseballs? Oh, I guess Travis will probably be injured so maybe a moot point.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 over 200 Hopefully the split will be Travis at 150 and Tulo at 50. If so, we'll have a better shot at a wild card.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 This team kinda suck: Morales contract, Tulo-Travis-Pearce health, Aaron blisters, Stroman mouth, Pillar bat,
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 This team kinda suck: Morales contract 2 years at $11.5m AAV - he only needs to be OK to justify the cost, and if he doesn’t improve then eating the last year wouldn’t be crippling for the budget. Tulo-Travis-Pearce health Diaz and Solarte are a pretty good middle infield. Pearce isn’t a vital player. Aaron blisters Agree - this is absolutely key to the season. Stroman mouth Unless it affects the clubhouse (and there isn’t any indication it has so far) then it’s irrelevant. Pillar bat It’d be a bonus if his bat ever improved but he’s been by far our best outfielder for 2 years in a row and likely will be again this year (unless one of the prospects comes through).

I agree with everything here. Man, a healthy Sanchez versus Blister Sanchez may be a 5 win swing... If we have a healthy Travis and Sanchez throughout 2018, I'm going to call it...WS parade. #jk
