Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 If the Rockies aren't going to give Mike Tauchman an extended look in their s*****/pathetic outfield - can the Jays? 12.5 BB% 15.7 K% .273 ISO .339 /.418 /.612 163 wRC+ Yeah he's 27, but he's a lefty and deserves a look. I see you too read Cistulli's Fringe Five lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1582678 That’s weird I thought he was already managing through a rebuild. This team is horse s*** at the major league level. I guess we are getting a Latin manager.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Votto's player's weekend jersey is "In Flanders Fields" https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1582215/ranking-the-10-best-players-weekend-nicknames There's the top 10 list. Votto is on it. We're using emoji's as names now. That's yeah, that's something alright.

Atkins spoke on those rumours from Blair the other day, but it seems if he does leave it'll be on Gibbons. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/atkins-gibbons-remains-part-blue-jays-plans-moving-ahead/

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Interesting the the Jays are starting Urena at 3B considering he hasn't played the position in 4 years when they could have just slid over Diaz. Urena is probably a nothing prospect but hes still so young to completely rule out despite his mediocre season.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 The real question is, would any other big league team, at this point, sign Gibbons on as their manager?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 The real question is, would any other big league team, at this point, sign Gibbons on as their manager? I doubt it. More analytical front offices are going to hire younger/cheaper guys. Gibby’s rare in that he’s an old school guy who was willing to adapt to Shapiro’s philosophy (his managing in 2015 vs since then is night and day) so he’d still be a decent managerial candidate if a team needed one, but my guess is his managerial career is over the moment he’s done with the Jays. Maybe they will keep him around in another role.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I could see a team like the Nationals wanting someone like Gibby who is good with more mature players and not letting their egos get in the way.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Can we stop talking about Gibby like he's gone already? It's depressing.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Can we stop talking about Gibby like he's gone already? It's depressing. I don't know if any of you listen to the podcast "Jays At the Letters", but the latest episode addresses the Gibby thing. I think most fans like Gibby, and I think he has managed very well despite not having the resources to field an even average team. It is a travesty that the FO has a ton of decent middle infielders on the farm, but due to service time contraints, forces Gibby to play Martin at SS and stuff. Brutal. Even worse, there are a ton of SP pitchers in AA and AAA that would die for a spot start yet the Jays grab someone from out of the org to start when needed. Anyway, the podcast discusses the advantages of firing Gibby now. First, we get a head start on the other teams that will soon need a manager. Maybe 5-7 teams. Second, it avoids any embarrassing situations. For example, what if Shapiro is hot for Girardi (I pray!) as our next manager. Can you imagine the negative optics for Gibby and everyone if Girardi was spotted at the Pearson before Gibby was fired? And they mention in the podcast that Atkins/Shapiro have interviewed candidates 10 times for minor league coaching positions. They will need a lot of time to do their "due diligence" apparently to hire anyone. Start now, unencumbered. They also mention Walker and Hale as possibilities. So, in sum, I would like Gibby to take a paid two month holiday then come back and be part of the org somehow.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 If they don't want Gibbons back then no point having him manage next season. He is either going to be extended or fired, and there's a lot of smoke about the fired part, so it's probably already decided.

Maybe he’s just saying that because he knows he’s gone.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Hes still signed for next season. If he walks away on his own terms they don't have to pay him. They will mutually part ways in the off-season.

If there’s no extension (and that seems unlikely at this point) Gibby probably won’t want to stay for his last year if it’s a season all about developing prospects, knowing he’s gone at the end of the year whatever happens.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 You would think with a prospect like Vlad coming up it would be tough to leave this job. Even if you have to go through another s***** season in 2019. I can see him possibly being talked into staying if hes the manager they truly want. Vlad is type of impact player that could turn a franchise around fast especially when they start pumping out other legit prospects and a lot of money for free agent additions to surround him with.

Yeah if he was offered an extension it’d be surprising if he turned it down. Can’t see him being offered one, but you never know. Would be good to see though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Wait, why do we want Girardi? I'll take Gibbons over Girardi easily.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Wait, why do we want Girardi? I'll take Gibbons over Girardi easily. Girardi was very much into analytics, you have to be if you manage the Yankees. The Yanks overachieved practically every year he managed as well. I'd rate him over Gibby. Either way I don't think he'd come here, nor do I think Shapiro will pay that much for a manager. It will probably be a cheap no name guy. Or maybe they will promote Hale.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Wait, why do we want Girardi? I'll take Gibbons over Girardi easily. We? I want Girardi. I think Gibby is a good manager, but assuming he’s fired or walks away, Girardi is my #1. But I like the idea of Bautista becoming manager, too. What do you experts think?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Wait, why do we want Girardi? I'll take Gibbons over Girardi easily. Agreed. Girardi stinks.
