Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 No only did they trade for replacement level Drury they traded for injured Brandon Drury. At least he doesn't have hand, foot, and mouth disease.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 New Player Note Tue, Aug 7 The Blue Jays are hopeful that Josh Donaldson (calf) will be able to begin sprinting workouts soon. Advice: That's the final hurdle that Donaldson needs to clear before he can begin a minor league rehab assignment. He's been working out, taking grounders, hitting, throwing, and jogging since mid-July. The impending free agent third baseman will likely be the big fish on the August waiver trade market if he's at 100 percent health. He's been out since May 29 with a lingering left calf injury. More: Ben Nicholson-Smith on Twitter (Rotoworld.com) I'm not sure this is a good report or not. It's August 8th. Even if he's sprinting right now as we speak it's still probably a couple weeks before he plays... then again what do I know. I'll be an optimist here is the timeline Aug 9th - Donaldson sprints. Aug 10th - Rehab game Dunedin Aug 11th - Rehab game Dunedin Aug 12th - Rehab game Buffalo (Donaldson and Vlad go back to back in symbolic nod to past and future Blue Jay Champions) Aug 14th - Back to Toronto Aug 14th to 28th - 22/60 4 doubles, 2 triples, 6 homers (triples are important as it shows the scouts he can sprint like the wind) Aug 29th - Traded for great prospects.

Ray Verified Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Pannone called up. Hopefully Reid-Foley gets the call up soon as well to see what we've got in these guys.
jerb Verified Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Ben Nicholson-Smith Verified account @bnicholsonsmith Thomas Pannone up with #BlueJays as bullpen depth for now #Jays need a starter Monday. Pannone a candidate for that start. Also, Sean Reid-Foley has earned consideration & legitimate shot he could make his MLB debut. Team weighing options depending on how weekend goes
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Really hope SRF gets that call so he can finally be EXPOSED for the no-command poser that he is.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Man that Joe Smith trade was so good along with the Liriano one. Boring on the surface, no one is likely emerging as a star or even an average starter here, but that's already two guys from last year's deadline that will have made their debut with the team and have a ton of control, and Samad Taylor is still somewhat interesting in the low minors.

I agree that the trade was good... But if you're thinking they're below average, who cares what the control is. Why do I want below average guys on my team?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I agree that the trade was good... But if you're thinking they're below average, who cares what the control is. Why do I want below average guys on my team? Because depth is important and injuries are a part of the sport, it's really good to have guys that can fill in for a few weeks/months and not kill your team ala Ryan Goins or Mat Latos. You don't trade half a year of Joe Smith or Francisco Liriano expecting an average starter, but if you can get even a decent platoon bat or 6th/7th starter that's how you avoid your team bottoming out if one of the actual starters goes down - obviously if several of them get injured then you're f***ed anyway. At the very least a guy like Teoscar shows average starter potential and Taylor is a lottery pick, they're not just complete garbage. The control is a bonus for one because you might be able to send them up and down as you please, and if you hit the jackpot with one of them then you have a good player on the cheap. For the record I believe Pannone at least shows 5th starter potential.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 There were lots of players last year (throughout MLB) who just chose to use their own last name instead of a nickname. They may feel nicknames (and the players weekend in general) are stupid or non-traditional or disrespectful or something. Why would Sanchez use 'Sanchize' ? Nobody actually calls him that do they? Isn't that something the media created when he was good 2 years ago? Like f*** me - he's many moons from being 'the franchise' these days. He should go with 'Blister' or 'Made of Glass' or 'Overrated' or something
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Stroman going with HDMH makes me want to vomit. f*** him.
