Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Author Posted May 3, 2018 Interesting that they went with Smith Jr.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Well I think it's for a cup of coffee until Smoak is back from paternity leave. 26th man for Game 1 = Mayza 26th man for Game 2 = Biagini Donaldson activated = Smoak on pat leave Smith Jr called up = Ngoepe optioned Then when Smoak gets back = Smith Jr optioned
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Why Not Pompey I think the FO sees Smith as more of a future 4th outfielder type so they don't have problems with having him come up and maybe sit on the bench a bit. They want the potentially future full time players like pompey and Alford to be getting full time at bats
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Somebody make the game day thread please. I don't care if it rains or not it will at least be a place to discuss it.

I love our young OF and next year with Grandy and Pearce (presumably) gone we might be able to get some more of those kids in there.
mtljaysfan Verified Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Are you guys concerned with our starting pitching? It's supposed to be our strength but only Happ's been decent so far. On the bright side our bullpen has been phenomenal and our offense much better than I expected.

Estrada especially.

They noted that Pompey had headaches. Not sure if anyone else caught that but that is likely why he wasn't brought up. It could also be DSJ is seen as the 4th OF, but sure the headaches played a factor too.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Haven't really followed Pompey much this year, is he back to being legit?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Haven't really followed Pompey much this year, is he back to being legit? No, not really, that's why Smith Jr was called up.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Garcia has been far worse then any of the other starters
The Iceman Verified Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Is it time to end the "Biagini is a starter" crusade? He has gone from a high leverage multi inning RP option to a frustrating SP.

I would think so, though its unfair to bring up the guy for these 1 off starts in the majors. Makes it impossible to get in some sort of a groove. Its not like we have great options right now, Estrada and Garcia both look horrible, both have FIPs over 6.

On the bright side our bullpen has been phenomenal and our offense much better than I expected. I'm not overly concerned, we've done pretty well despite the struggles of our rotation, and I'm confident that they are better than this. Just hope they get it together to pick the bats up when they inevitably go cold at some point here.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 Gift DFA'd end of an era TBF it's unlikely he’ll be claimed so there’s a good chance he remains at AAA.

Yeah I can't think of a team off hand that would be desperate enough for MIF depth to take on a guy who obviously can't cut it with the stick. Could be wrong...

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 The Royals, for one. They did employ Goins so you may have a point there...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Gift DFA'd end of an era So that's who was taken off the 40 man. Looks like the team may just use Urena for the role of "s***** middle infielder with options" moving forward?
