Watching the Dodgers game and Hyun-Jin Ryu left the game in the 2nd inning. (Maybe hamstring or groin injury)

The Dodgers has been very unlucky this season.. They were without Turner.. they just lost Corey Seager for the season.. Rich Hill is on the DL.. Kershaw and Jansen is not pitching well..

So Paxton is going ham right now. 11K's thru 5 with only 68 pitches.

16 Ks through 7 IP now, with 105 pitches. He's still hitting 97-98 consistently on his fastball, so I hope they leave him in for a few more.

Edit: He's done.

Updated projections has us 1 game up on them in the 2nd wildcard. Mariners a game behind them.

The 2nd WC is going to be up for grabs. No team really has a decided edge over the other between the Jays, Angels, and Mariners, while the Twins are probably ass but can beat up on shittier teams over 50 times this year so can’t rule them out either. The A’s being decent will help the Jays a bit since the West won’t be a cake walk aside from the bloody Rangers.

It’s funny in a cruel way that all those teams will be fighting for the chance to play one game on the road against Sale or Severino. Oh well, it’s still the playoffs in the record books.

Twins also will hopefully have Sano and Buxton back, and Polanco is due back midseason after suspension, and they'll have Ervin Santana back eventually. Unfortunately, the Twins' problem is poor defense (notably Eddie Rosario, Escobar and Dozier) and lousy pitching beyond Berrios and possibly Gibson. Shockingly, their best player is Joe Mauer.. which tells how horrible this team is.

A's are an up and coming team--but the rotation needs work. Outside of Manaea, the starting pitching has been godawful. Mariners are playing way over their head--that pitching is going to come back to haunt them, as all 5 Seattle starters have ERAs north of 4 and ugly WHIPs, offsetting good performances in the bullpen by Bradford, Pazos, Nicasio and Diaz along with their offense.. and the bench is trash.

And of course the Angels are an injury risk waiting to happen--and Mike Trout needs better help than what he's got.

The Twins have dug themselves a pretty big hole. If they hadn't have done that I'd feel more optimistic about their chances but at 6 games under, they need to play at a 91-win pace from here on out to even get to just 86 wins.

It's time but I wonder why they wouldn't announce it in advance and then let Ichiro start his final game in RF for his curtain call.

EDIT: Sounds like this might not be the end after all. I could totally see him playing the games in Japan.

And even that could be difficult--the pitching is back to being awful again, like in their 103-loss 2016 season, combined with ugly D. At this point, Cleveland can basically sit back--no one in the AL Central is going to catch them.. though the Tigers have been surprisingly good for a rebuilding team, thanks to improved pitching and defense and a competent manager. Need some hitting to emerge from the farm, though. But Gardy's done a great job so far--a big improvement over Flaky Brad Ausmus..

Oh it WILL be difficult for them. They likely don't finish .500 at this point. Mediocre team who dig themselves a hole. Not worried so much about the Twins at this moment.

Is anyone scared of the Atlanta Braves yet in the NL East? They're pounding the Mets--and with a win, they'll be 1.5 games up in 1st.. that NL East has been strong, and Washington is playing better now.

Ichiro really needs to retire. I know he still wants to play but he's been terrible for years and I struggle to remember a time when he was an impact player.

Looks like the Dodgers just can't catch a break.. Hyun-Jin Ryu is now on the DL with a groin strain..

On the plus side, Walker Buehler gets a shot to establish himself. Problem is, this is the last thing the Dodgers need when the team is so decimated by the injury bug on both position players and pitchers.

1.3 WAR in 365 PA's in 2016 with a league average bat (wRC+ of 100).

He fell off a cliff after the 2010 season (4.7 WAR) and has been a backup player ever since, while chasing 3000 hits and/or Rose's all time profession hit record.

He was an incredible player. It's been a pleasure watching him for the past 18 years.

I like the Boxy narrative better. Verlander’s first 12 years in the league he’s against any doctoring of the baseball. Even when his career seems headed for the toilet (especially to observers on this board) and he has a massive contact, he doesn’t go down that dark road. But he bounces back anyway in 2016 and pitches like one the best in baseball 10 k’s/9 and 5-1 k/bb. Gets traded to Houston and as soon as he gets off the plane before his first start he says “maybe it’s time I started cheating” The rest is history. Boxy’s sleuthing skills are unmatched

Should I link you Ryan Braun's speech after his appeal succeeded the first time he got busted?
