This has Shatkins written all over it. One year on control, innings eater, probably won't take much, trade chip in July.

Yeah that makes some sense, could use the steady innings.

I'd gladly take Roark on. 10M to eat 180 SP4 calibre innings makes sense for this rotation.

I don't think he'd have much trade value in July though. Nobody wants Roark starting playoff games.

I suspect we won't see any FA signings until February, with Shstkins working the leftovers at discounts.

Focused more right now on potential stroman, Sanchez, Giles trades maybe?

I wouldn't trade Sanchez or Stroman now. Value too low.

A good first half for one of them and you probably get more at the trade deadline from a contender who's short a SP.

Both have post season experience. Some GMs will like that.

Agree in principle. But we all know AA and his player faves. Maybe Shatkins can work some magic.

Hey, if someone is offering a nice package for either right now then do it

Stroman and Sanchez are SPs that a rebuilding team that wants to compete would acquire. They're not deadline difference makers. A team in the playoff hunt is not going to blow their load for Aaron Sanchez and start him in the Wildcard game.

They fit a team like SD or CIN who is looking everywhere for SPs because they need them from April 1st onwards. At the deadline you lose these teams. Not even JA Happ was seen as a difference maker at the deadline last year (one less year of control but he's better).

They would have to pitch like aces to bump their value. If their FIP is 3.80, is it really going to boost their value? Most of these teams see them as high 3, low 4 FIP SPs already.

Possible exception would be Sanchez becoming a lights out reliever.

I guess Stroman and Sanchez are seen like Sonny Gray now

Had SP 1/2 level heights and some promise but little chance now of being any better than a number 4 on a good team.

I'm having a hard time accepting that but it's the truth

I still think Stroman is very good

Gotta think Stro has significantly more value than Sanchez at this point. I doubt Sanchez even has Gray level value after missing 2 seasons in a row

If teams don't consider Stro a 2/3 then Shatkins shouldn't even be talking to them. Sanchez, on the other hand, is absolutely terrible.

I don't see why not. Bellinger has graded as a plus defender in CF. No reason to play him at 1B.

I was referring to the right side of the infield, yuck.

So you hope to position Stroman as a mid rotation starter and Sanchez as an 8th inning guy who has to prove he can stay healthy...

That's about how I value them yeah.

Stroman is good, folks!

I'm still hoping so but his walks and FIP were career worsts in 102 IP this year

Would love to see him come out strong in 2019

Sources: #Reds remain active in trade discussions for Sonny Gray and Marcus Stroman. They believe there’s a better chance of acquiring one of them than Corey Kluber. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Morosi is usually full of s***, but here goes. Also Stroman is definitely getting traded this offseason

Trollosi is not credible at all.

The Reds do seem like a realistic destination for him though. Don’t know what they would give up. Cashman apparently asked for Trammel in return for Gray and was rejected.

Tony Santillan and Jesse Winker would be an interesting return for Stroman.

Hunter Greene would be nice! I'd expect something more along the lines of maybe Santillan + Reed/Sims though. Not sure I'd be happy about it.

Hunter Greene is such an Abom pitcher.

Buck Martinez is that you?

I once played a drinking game where I took a shot every time Buck Martinez said the word, "interesting". Needless to say, I passed out face first in the three layer bean dip by the bottom of the 1st. Not one of my finer moments...

Why are the Reds looking to acquire pitching when their entire team is a hot pile of garbage?

They are making an early bid for the annual bad team that goes all in for the offseason, creates hype, then stumbles on their face because they actually suck.

Stroman for Trammell would work for me. Then absorb Roark's contract, sign Mike Fiers, etc, to fill out the rotation. Doubt the Reds do it, but F it.

The Reds would be incredibly foolish to trade Trammell or Senzel.

Agreed, but looking at the Reds system, I'm not sure I see a package worth doing if Santillan is the best guy coming back.

I would rather have Hunter Greene or Jonathan India (obviously). Those two are maybe not off limits, if the Reds are serious about accelerating their timeline while Votto and Suarez are still good.
