He made a decent living when he was playing I just don't get why he'd take the risk. He probably could have went into coaching or private lessons to make money. So dumb.

 

Yup, my buddies that played for the Jays do that here, and didn't make anywhere near the amount of money he did, have houses, children, etc... just idiotic, I have no sorrow for him, unless he had a gun to his head. Even then, he created the problem on his own.

Last night Braves announcer Joe Simpson implied that he I thinks Soto could be lying about his age. Though the theory wasn't based on any evidence other than Soto being strong, which made it a really dumb thing to say.

I guess that's better than basing on the fact that he's Dominican...

A batter will always choose the strategy that allows him to be most successful. If bunting against the shift worked some one would do it and be a success. In fact why doesn't Jayson Werth do it?? He should join the Orioles next year, and show us all how bunting and hitting to the opposite field is the right way, It could be the story of the year.

 

AP (Associated Press) - Veteran Ball Player proves the nerd's wrong. Jayson Werth doesn't believe in Math, and hates nerd's. A bad attitude?? Maybe but that bad attitude is going to lead to a batting title for the 39 year old. Werth is currently hitting a career high .365, half his 230 hits are either bunt singles or opposite field singles. He's on base over 300 times and is leading the AL with 139 runs. His Baltimore Oriole team mates have joined in on the fun. In 2018 Baltimore was a low average high strikeout team, so typical in modern baseball. However by cutting down on strikeouts, bunting against shifts, and using the opposite field Baltimore is aiming to be a last to first success story. The team batting average is .285, over 20 points ahead of the second place Boston (.263). And despite only hitting 120 homers, less than half that of the Yankees, Baltimore is outscoring NY. Chris Davis among other team mates is a believer in the new strategy. Davis is hitting .280, and his 120 ks are half as many as last year. Davis says "I've even hit more homeruns than last year (28 to 26), I popped a bunch to the opposite field. Wasn't even trying to hit them. Just trying to hit a ground ball single, and the homers came anyway. I owe it all to Jayson."

This is a really interesting article on Verlander. Probably the best thing I've ever seen published on Bleacher Report, not that that's a very high bar.

Juan Soto is absurd. 2/2 with 3 walks today, and now has a 17% BB rate, 17% K-rate, and a wRC+ of 164. His command of the strike zone at the age of 19 is pretty much unprecedented.

I remember when people were complaining about him being the most talked about minor leaguer on the board this season before he debuted. Looks like the hype was warranted.

Bleacher Report is great if you use it as it’s intended to be used - as a news aggregator site. Just never read any comments or “here’s a list of the top players who could be traded” type speculation articles that are poorly researched trash.

Carlos Santana seems like a very expensive platoon bat... and Rhys Hoskins is a garbage outfielder. I don't really get it but I guess if he's cheap... maybe?

Betts hits for the cycle, Trout hits the DL. I think there’s going to be a lot of annoyed people here when Betts wins the MVP this year haha.

 

TBF their season WAR is close enough to let the better narrative be the deciding factor IMO (just like JD’s MVP season).

Betts is a deserving candidate this season, he's putting up godly numbers along with Trout and Jose Ramirez.

 

I'd probably vote for Ramirez right now if I had a say in it.
