Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 137 wRC+ as a 20 year old and he still probably won't be RoY, the amount of young elite hitting talent coming up to the majors nowadays is insane. Also insane is Acuna, VGJ, Soto, Jiminez, Tatis Jr, Robles are all Dominican.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Didn't Cito spout race as a reason why he was fired and could not get another managing job? I remember him getting into a feud with Bob McCown and calling him racist because he'd criticize him. Cito was real s***** sometimes.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Acuna lead off both games of today's doubleheader with a homerun. Kid is insane. Braves 7 games up on Nats too now Crazy
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 The extra bench player is probably not worth angering one of your better starting pitchers.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Interesting article from Fangraphs about hitting with backspin v. hitting it square. https://www.fangraphs.com/community/should-players-hit-with-backspin-the-data-might-surprise-you/

I guess - but it's a good strategy that gives the team a better chance at winning. You should be able to avoid this situation with strong communication and a commitment to add the $20K onto his next contract or something.

Tell him you're not doing this to save money that you're trying to win in a division that's unexpectedly up for grabs. He won't even miss a ML start. He just has to ride the bus in the minors for a bit which I'm sure sucks. Add 20k to his league min salary next year as a sign of good faith.

He isn't making a start in AAA.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Author Posted August 14, 2018 So, the PTBNL in the Archer trade is Shane Baz.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 So, the PTBNL in the Archer trade is Shane Baz. That's quite the PTBNL
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 So, the PTBNL in the Archer trade is Shane Baz. Meadows, Glasnow and Baz is a sweet haul, but to be expected for Archer.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 So, the PTBNL in the Archer trade is Shane Baz. wtf is Pittsburgh doing? that's such a strange trade for that franchise to make
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 wtf is Pittsburgh doing? that's such a strange trade for that franchise to make Especially since they traded a superior pitcher in Gerrit Cole for a much worse return. That team does not have the makings of a contender in the next 1-2 years, not sure what the hell they're thinking.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Pittsburg also traded Liriano and two highly regarded (at the time) prospects for Hutch.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 two highly regarded (at the time) Not really. The shine was off both of them, and they only looked like borderline major leaguers in a best case scenario. Still true, I'd argue. It was a super cheapass transaction though, to be sure.

Ray couldn't.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 wtf is Pittsburgh doing? that's such a strange trade for that franchise to make Neal Huntington happened. He has a great scouting staff and development team, but when it comes to trades... *shudders*

Two times under AA a pitcher coming back from TJS threw 190ish innings his first year back, and both fell off a cliff shortly after (Marcum, Hutch). Marcum at least had another good year or so before falling off but don’t think that was a coincidence.

King Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Acuna dingered again. Mark Bowman @mlbbowman 1m1 minute ago Acuna did it again on the first pitch. He now has a leadoff homer in three straight games and four of the past five.

King Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 I thought Jalen Beeks was black until tonights Rays/Yankees game.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 TY Acuna going yard again! This is insane. 19 homers in 289 PA. I didn't think he'd have this kind of power. Especially not at 20.
