I still think his down season last year was due to his thumb injury, a healthy Diaz is our Utility man, this is a really, really good move.

A healthy, productive Diaz is our starting shortstop...

So I'll do it. Why would the Cards give Diaz away for free? They aren't a dumb FO.

I wonder if maybe they think 2016 he was taking PEDs. His ISO in 2016 looks like a big outlier especially given the ballpark he played in.

Even if he's only a trued talent 90wRC+ that's pretty valuable given his positional versatility.

Maybe he's just an ******* like Yunel Escobar. Diaz was already DFAed once.

The Cardinals sure like their OF prospects.... what a steal for the Jays if he can be healthy and productive. Love this add as utility depth.

One thing is his xwOBA has been well below his actual wOBA the last 2 years so perhaps the bat is well below average. Probably what the Cardinals were looking at when deciding to trade him.

Well... assuming the defense is solid, he can do Goins' job for less money. Nice savings with some potential upside.

Yeah worst case is he is Ryan Goins with a better bat and worse glove. Upside is a 2-3 Win player with control.

SS Defense supposedly well below average.

Scouting report in 2015 on his D

"Defensively, Diaz is more solid than flashy with average arm strength and range to play shortstop adequately, but few scouts consider him a long-term everyday option there in the big leagues. He's athletic enough to move around the diamond, and that seems like the most likely outcome for Diaz, who was added back to the 40-man after a solid showing in the Arizona Fall League. He'd have to hit his way onto the big league roster in 2016. Otherwise, he will head to Triple-A Memphis."

The D metrics aren't great but their not horrible or anything. Looks okay to me.

I could guess is that they have a lot of IF depth they need to clear out? This might've been the best offer they could get. I dunno.

Woodman had a 38% K% in low A and had a 98 wRC+ despite a BABIP a shade under .400. At age 22, about to turn 23.

Damn, what an awful draft pick that turned out to be, but good way to leverage it into something potentially useful.

I assume he can play 2nd. Does anyone know if he has the arm to cover 3rd?

Both arms confirmed, at least one of which should be able to cover third. We're laughin'.

SS was pretty rough last year looking at DRS and Inside Edge. Probably isn't getting any more athletic either. He'll be fine playing there twice a week but if Tulo goes down for a month I'm not sure you want him playing everyday there.

Nothing to dislike about today's moves. I wonder if they'll give any thought to maybe giving Diaz some OF reps in an attempt to maximize his value as a super utility type. Either way he's a lot more interesting than our previous utility infielders.

Cardinals fans are HATING on this move

Yay :)

My Cards friends are saying good riddance. Goins gone and I got blocked by Marty York today...that's a good day!
