BTS Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 Right on, really like this claim, I don't get why the Rays didn't protect him? Same. He has intriguing upside. Any idea if he has option years left?
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 seems like he has at least some upside. Former top 100 prospect with an injury history that may have prevented him from living up to his potential. Unfortunately his last full year was pretty bad with only 5.5k/9 in AA so probably not much to get excited about here. Maybe he turns out better than Tom Koehler for us, that would be nice.

GB guy who at least used to have legit stuff. I wonder if a move to the pen can help him stay healthy and help the stuff play up.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 all I could find for scouting was from 2016 work which talked about his stuff regressing. Obviously can't tell anything from 9 1/3 inning, but I'd love to have heard how his stuff looked this year at least (as he struck out 12) on an unrelated note, he's served a 50-game drug suspension and look at this photo from MiLB.com jesus man, get some better eye drops.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Nice pickup. I assume he starts in Buffalo. He and Biagini in AAA would be the start of some alright depth down there.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Same. He has intriguing upside. Any idea if he has option years left? Yup, 1 left, reeeeeally liking this now, holy s***.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Same. He has intriguing upside. Any idea if he has option years left? He's never been in the majors so he would have all his options left right? He's had some major elbow issues. Must be why Tampa let him go.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Based on his GB%, this guy must throw bowling balls!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 From Eric Longenhagen prior to this past season... Relevant/Interesting Metrics Has walked just under 6% of opposing batters as professional. Scouting Report Once a prototypical prep righty with a mid-90s fastball and hammer curve, Guerrieri has been sidetracked by Tommy John surgery and a 50-game drug suspension. A 2011 draftee, Guerrieri didn’t throw more than 80 innings in a season until last year; ironically, it’s the year his stuff backed up. He now sits 87-91 with a sinking fastball. There just isn’t as much arm acceleration here as there used to be, and the curveball is lacking the same depth and bite that once made Guerrieri such a desirable prospect, now profiling closer to average. He throws strikes, though, and might still carve out a spot at the very back of a rotation as a sinker/command arm. He’s on the precipice of the big leagues and projects as a fifth starter.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 that's the one I was looking at (re: his stuff backing up). Would have been nice to know where he was sitting to start this year. I'm wondering if we picked him up to switch him to the BP.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 Yup, 1 left, reeeeeally liking this now, holy s***. Yeah, that’s what I dug up too. Really like this.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Really liked Guerrieri out of HS. Too bad it hasn't worked out for him. Maybe he can finally realize his potential in the pen.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 From Eric Longenhagen prior to this past season... Guerrieri has been sidetracked by Tommy John surgery and a 50-game drug suspension and don't forget this one "Rays pitching prospect Taylor Guerrieri needed stitches to close a cut near his right eyebrow after hitting his head on a bathtub Saturday" this guy is just a step above Spanky in his ability to stay healthy.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Does this leave us at 36 or 37 on the 40? Who's next on the chopping block if we add anyone after the guys we protect from the Rule 5? Refsnyder? Goins?

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I thought this guy was drafted like two years ago, damn. Intriguing upside still so I have no qualms about this, shrewd pickup.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 36 now You have to think Refsnyder and Maile are next up. I think they leave both Rowdy and Pentecost exposed. It likely does mean that they won't have a pick themselves in the Rule 5.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Good pickup and cleaning house I like it

I don't think Pentecost will be taken. Too many injuries and old for the level he was on with no pure position. I could see a team that will suck next year take a chance on Rowdy. He has monster raw power.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Does this leave us at 36 or 37 on the 40? Who's next on the chopping block if we add anyone after the guys we protect from the Rule 5? Refsnyder? Goins? Goins will be on the 25 man roster ten years from now, I am almost sure of that, so he's probably safe. Refsynder is definitely gone. I like the pick up too. Can't hurt.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Nice pick up, I wanted us to draft this guy in 2011. Shame injuries and drugs have held him back, maybe he can be a good pen arm if not a depth starter. Crazy how fast time can pass sometimes, 6 years ago we drafted Tyler Beede.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I don't think Pentecost will be taken. Too many injuries and old for the level he was on with no pure position. I could see a team that will suck next year take a chance on Rowdy. He has monster raw power. It's very rare for 1B only player to be taken in the rule 5. No one's going to give him a starting job and he's next to useless as anything other than a NL pinch hitting specialist. It's just so much easier to stash an athletic player who can at least put in some defensive duty or a pitcher that can fill the back of the bullpen. I think you can pretty safely expose him. Besides which, it's not like last year where there was a chance he could usurp Smoak. Smoak is as settled as can be now and Rowdy is further away so in the unlikely case that you lose him, it wouldn't be that big of a blow.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I love the Guerrieri pickup.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I think they leave both Rowdy and Pentecost exposed. It likely does mean that they won't have a pick themselves in the Rule 5. Or they must just see if they can sneak Guerrieri through themselves. Worth a shot if you have an open spot to use. I woudn't assume they have definitive plans to keep him. They play the waiver roulette every year.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Bearry 12:08 Guerrieri gets picked up by the Blue Jays. What's his deal these days? Big loss for Rays? Eric A Longenhagen 12:09 Probably not. Has had a myriad of injury issues, latest reports I have on his stuff aren't good, has had off-field issues. Pass.
