By Quinn Roberts / MLB.com The Red Sox begin a pivotal seven-game road trip Monday against a pair of American League East foes, with the first stop coming in Toronto against the Blue Jays for a three-game series. Left-hander Drew Pomeranz takes the hill for Boston, which heads to New York to face the Yankees over the weekend. Right-hander Marcus Stroman gets the nod Monday for Toronto at Rogers Centre. Pomeranz (13-4, 3.18 ERA) has been a steady presence in the Red Sox's rotation, winning a career-high seven straight decisions and tossing six or more innings in seven of his past 10 starts. He allowed just two hits over 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine Wednesday in a win against the Indians. "[He threw a] fastball up that was getting past our barrel," Indians manager Terry Francona said after the game. "And then, [he had] a very good curveball -- threw it for strikes, threw it for strike-to-ball. He coupled that with the fastball that he kind of rode for the most part up, out over the zone. He really gave us fits." Meanwhile, Stroman struggled against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. Usually an innings eater for the Blue Jays, Stroman has tossed at least six innings in seven of his past 10 starts. "Balls are flying out these days. Just is what it is," Stroman said after the game. "I didn't make particularly good pitches." Three things to know about this game • Stroman is 4-2 with a 4.47 ERA in nine career starts against the Red Sox. In two starts this season, he's 0-1 with a 4.77 ERA. • The Red Sox have won 13 of Pomeranz's past 17 starts. He's 10-1 with a 2.48 ERA over that span. • Pomeranz has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his 12 road starts. gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Every ball hit hard. Stroman is having one of those lucky BABIP years.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Every ball hit hard. Stroman is having one of those lucky BABIP years. His BABIP is .311 and HR/FB is 17% lmao, he's been lucky with getting GIDPs if anything, but otherwise he's actually been rather unlucky.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Every ball hit hard. Stroman is having one of those lucky BABIP years. BABIP for AL starters this year is .297. Stroman is at .312, which is almost exactly in line with what he did last year. He isn't having a lucky BABIP year.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 His BABIP is .311 and HR/FB is 17% lmao, he's been lucky with getting GIDPs if anything, but otherwise he's actually been rather unlucky. FIP is s*** though, is it not?
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 2 out rally..Am I seeing things?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 FIP is s*** though, is it not? His FIP is 3.86 (FIP- is 87), xFIP is 3.63 (xFIP- is 83). Absolutely nothing s*** about it.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 I don't mean to pile on gruber, but your point about Stroman being lucky wasn't quite supported during that inning lol.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 That Danmy Jansen guy has to be better than these 2 clowns, right?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Gruber fails hard, again. So predictable and easy to lurk your sorry ass out of the bushes.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Raffy Lopez is really getting on my f***ing nerves. He's trash. Of all the slop we've used at backup C this year he might be the worst and that's saying something. Seems like this moment in the bigs might be too big for him or something. That throw was a joke.
