Match-ups on the bump...

Game 1, Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays

Monday, August 28, 7:07 PM ET , Rogers Centre

Drew Pomeranz, RHP... ERA- 3.18, FIP- 3.62, xFIP- 3.84, WAR- 2.8

Pomeranz has been a steady presence in the rotation. He has won a career-high seven straight decisions and tossed six or more innings in seven of his last 10 starts. He got a win in his last start vs. the Indians, allowing two hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Marcus Stroman, RHP... ERA- 3.17, FIP- 3.87, xFIP- 3.62, WAR- 2.8

Stroman continues to chew through innings for the Blue Jays, but the Rays found success against him his last time out. The right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings, but is usually a safe bet to bounce back.

Game 2, Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays

Tuesday, August 29, 7:07 PM ET , Rogers Centre

Chris Sale, LHP... ERA- 2.88, FIP- 2.07 xFIP- 2.71, WAR- 7.4

After a rough start Thursday against the Indians, Sale will look to rebound, He allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in a season-low three innings for his second straight loss. He’s 5-2 with a 1.68 ERA against Toronto.

Brett Anderson, LHP... ERA- 8.18, FIP- 4.49, xFIP- 4.45, WAR- 0.2

Anderson will be making his first start with the Blue Jays after signing a Minor League deal earlier this month. In two starts with Triple-A Buffalo, the lefty allowed just one earned run on four hits over 9 2/3 innings.

Game 3, Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays

Wednesday, August 30, 7:07 PM ET , Rogers Centre

Rick Porcello, RHP... ERA- 4.57, FIP- 4.43, xFIP-4.30, WAR- 2.0

Porcello had one of his toughest starts Friday against the Orioles, giving up 11 runs (four earned) on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. It broke a string of four straight wins. He has allowed a career-high 31 homers this season.

J.A. Happ, LHP... ERA- 4.10, FIP- 3.88, xFIP- 3.94, WAR- 1.9

Happ was hit around by the Twins in his last start, but outside of a two-run double that he left over the plate and some control issues that came and went, the veteran left-hander mostly avoided hard contact.

The Red Sox begin a pivotal seven-game road trip Monday against a pair of American League East foes, with the first stop coming in Toronto against the Blue Jays for a three-game series.

Left-hander Drew Pomeranz takes the hill for Boston, which heads to New York to face the Yankees over the weekend. Right-hander Marcus Stroman gets the nod Monday for Toronto at Rogers Centre.

Pomeranz (13-4, 3.18 ERA) has been a steady presence in the Red Sox's rotation, winning a career-high seven straight decisions and tossing six or more innings in seven of his past 10 starts.

He allowed just two hits over 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine Wednesday in a win against the Indians.

"[He threw a] fastball up that was getting past our barrel," Indians manager Terry Francona said after the game. "And then, [he had] a very good curveball -- threw it for strikes, threw it for strike-to-ball. He coupled that with the fastball that he kind of rode for the most part up, out over the zone. He really gave us fits."

Meanwhile, Stroman struggled against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. Usually an innings eater for the Blue Jays, Stroman has tossed at least six innings in seven of his past 10 starts.

"Balls are flying out these days. Just is what it is," Stroman said after the game. "I didn't make particularly good pitches."

Three things to know about this game

• Stroman is 4-2 with a 4.47 ERA in nine career starts against the Red Sox. In two starts this season, he's 0-1 with a 4.77 ERA.

• The Red Sox have won 13 of Pomeranz's past 17 starts. He's 10-1 with a 2.48 ERA over that span.

• Pomeranz has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his 12 road starts.

Every ball hit hard. Stroman is having one of those lucky BABIP years.

His BABIP is .311 and HR/FB is 17% lmao, he's been lucky with getting GIDPs if anything, but otherwise he's actually been rather unlucky.

BABIP for AL starters this year is .297. Stroman is at .312, which is almost exactly in line with what he did last year. He isn't having a lucky BABIP year.

FIP is s*** though, is it not?

His FIP is 3.86 (FIP- is 87), xFIP is 3.63 (xFIP- is 83). Absolutely nothing s*** about it.

Raffy Lopez is really getting on my f***ing nerves.

He's trash. Of all the slop we've used at backup C this year he might be the worst and that's saying something. Seems like this moment in the bigs might be too big for him or something. That throw was a joke.
