Fans always seem to love those pre-season number 1 pick types, who struggle in their draft year...but if a top prospect performs poorly in the minors they fall completely out of favour.

 

This is so f***ing true. The thing with Houck is that his production hasn't improved basically his entire time in college, and his fastball has reportedly stepped back this year. He's not that attractive to me.

There's no real flaw in Carlson's game. Callis says he's only being undervalued on draft boards because teams have some sort of fear of injury for high school pitchers, which is dumb. Pearson's got questionable command and secondaries, a screw in his arm and a good fallback to LSU if he doesn't like what he's getting. I don't think it's the end of the world if they take him, but I just don't like prospects that fit Pearson's profile.

Well it's not dumb--high school pitching is statistically the riskiest commodity. A big chunk of that is injury risk.
