metafour Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 This comparison makes no sense. The only thing they have in common is strikeouts Toolsy college CF's with highly suspect contact ability. I was half joking, but the comparison does make sense. Kendall obviously has louder tools.
43211234 Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Houck to the Red Sox after being drafted by Toronto three years ago. That confirms a future ace.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Houck has Blue Jays tattooed on his wrist lol
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 sounds like the reaction to Trea Turner being mocked to us. I like the pick. Solid floor and ability to keep improving. I believe that no one here has any idea of what they're talking about so I like the pick until proven otherwise.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I believe that no one here has any idea of what they're talking about so I like the pick until proven otherwise.This.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 He doesn't have the speed or athleticism of Trea Turner. But that comparison works. Wasn't comparing the player abilities to each other just how people hated the "college safe SS".
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Houck... Why do they let great prospects fall to the Red Sox every year?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Washington no doubt takes best player available.
metafour Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I believe that no one here has any idea of what they're talking about so I like the pick until proven otherwise. Scouts love Warmoth yet people on here see a white college SS with "high floor" label and conclude he's some no-tool dirtbag type. "He's Russ Adams!" Warmoth can really hit. Above-average bat speed and he sprays a stupid amount of line drives (ie: Bichette).
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Panel sure doesn't sound too bullish on Houck
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 f***ing Red Sox can pick anywhere in a draft and still get away with a good talent. And I didn't even want Houck, but I'm still somehow pissed that they took him.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 If Warmoth was a HS kid you'd love him. Why Allen over Warmoth? Midget with who knows what type of offensive upside, and I actually like Allen. You're falling into the HS= Good, College = Bad trap. No, no I'm not, kid can pick f***ing everything, he just hasn't any power as of yet. Only thing that needs to come is better gap power.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Not surprising that it's the Nats who are willing to take a chance on the questionable character
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Panel sure doesn't sound too bullish on Houck Considering who is on the pannel probably not a bad thing.
metafour Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Houck... Why do they let great prospects fall to the Red Sox every year? Houck looked like a shell of his former self late this year. Terrible mechanics and stuff way down (90-93 vs high 90's a year or two ago). I guess you hope you can "fix him", but this reminds me of Jon Harris.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 f***ing Red Sox can pick anywhere in a draft and still get away with a good talent. Same with Washington. It's bizarre. It's like all the other teams collude to let Boston get a steal and Washington get the expensive/injured/bad makeup steal.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I know the K issue is real, but I really hope the Kendall over Warmoth pick isn't gonna end up like the Davis over Seager pick when its all said and done.

Only thing that needs to come is better gap power. He's 5'8 150. How much power do you think he's going to develop? Are you happy if he turns into John McDonald? Warmoth is unanimously ranked higher by everyone, scouts, writers, teams, etc. There is a reason for this.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Seth Romero has a massive reverse W. Did teams stop caring about that mechanical flaw?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I know the K issue is real, but I really hope the Kendall over Warmoth pick isn't gonna end up like the Davis over Seager pick when its all said and done. I can live with it. If the 28th pick is another Marcus Stroman.

Again, completely different front offices. Why do people always base their opinions of current draft picks based on prior drafts? There's like no correlation whatsoever.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Seth Romero has a massive reverse W. Did teams stop caring about that mechanical flaw? Teams have never cared (nor should they)
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 I'm begging for Pearson to go off the board in the next two picks. I think there's a very real chance the Jays take him over Carlson if he's still on the board. That may be my worst nightmare.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 Manfred having his mic muted for Callis is instantly one of the top moments of this draft. MLB Network have their priorities straight.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Again, completely different front offices. Why do people always base their opinions of current draft picks based on prior drafts? There's like no correlation whatsoever. It wasn't even an indictment on the current front office vs. the old one. I like Warmoth. Very solid defensively, but Jeren Kendall certainly has the higher upside.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Fans always seem to love those pre-season number 1 pick types, who struggle in their draft year...but if a top prospect performs poorly in the minors they fall completely out of favour.
