Sounds like a very intriguing prospect. Did the Jays have him announced as a catcher or a pitcher?

Known since starring in the 2011 Little League World Series, Danner is one of the better legitimate two-way players in this Draft class. The scouting industry is still split down the middle on whether he'd be better suited on the mound or behind the plate at the next level. Danner has spent more time, especially in showcases, showing what he can do as a pitcher. He has a live fastball that can touch 94-95 mph and complements it with a solid curveball and a changeup that flashes above-average. He can fill the strike zone with all three, coming from a high slot. The UCLA commit also has the chance to a special catcher. He has good hands and a plus arm defensively and while he's a below-average runner, his athleticism helps him move well behind the dish. He swings the bat well from a crouch set up, with quiet pop that could end up being average power in the future. The one thing scouts agree on is that Danner's grades will improve once he starts to focus on one craft. But even as the spring unfolded, there was division among scouts whether he should stay on the mound or behind the plate at the next level.

The Blue Jays can mold him into the catcher they want him to be. They are thrilled when scouts say they haven't seen him catch a lot. In most show cases he was pitching.

Nope Richmond Hill Phoenix. Out of Richmond Green. Mosquito and Bantam in June, Peewee and Minor Bantam in July. I think it started around 2007, I came in 2010 and ran it on my own in 2015 and 2016 before realizing I didn't have the time.

I found it, cool. I'll help if I can... seeing my surgeon Wednesday.

Who had the best first day? and where would the Jays rank

I thought Seattle did. Jays should be up there as well. They got the 2 guys they were linked to the most.

If the Jays had gotten White and Carlson with Danner, I'd consider it the best day of any team by far and one of the better Day 1's of any draft I've followed. Seattle took both White and Carlson, but depending on how you feel about Warmoth and Pearson, the Jays still did pretty well. You can really only trust that the team knows what they're doing, even if that rarely ever means much in retrospect.

If you want to make yourself feel better, go back and look at the 2013 draft thread. Look up all the guys people were in love with then. Most never to be heard from again.

You can do this every year, with every club, until the draft started, s*** won't change, either way. It's just the rule 4 draft, it'll always bring up talk.

I remember loving Frazier, Meadows, Judge and Manaea in that draft, so looking back on 2013 doesn't help quell my hard-on for these prospects in any way.

You can remember that? Wow!

I'm having trouble getting excited about Danner. I hate catching prospects so much.

I wonder if they'll put him on the bump at all initially and keep that developmental window open... theoretically you could do it with a catching prospect in the short term, since they need more off days anyway. Just pencil the kid in for a truncated start or a couple innings of relief on his days off. Maybe that's too much stress on the arm though.

Could be a bit much on the arm if his legs are tired from catching the previous day. At the same time, he's just 18 so you'd think he could handle that every now and then.

I didn't even think about the effect of tired legs. It's probably too much to ask of him

Would the Jays take a shot on Romero, with the bad make-up? Top 10 stuff, for this draft.

Makeup seems to be way more important to Shatkins than highest upside.
