HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 1.) The fan experience is good enough as it is. 2.) I'm more concerned about putting real grass. That is the most important thing 3.) The pedestrian bridge looking into the RC will be interesting - I wonder how they'll do that? The best I can think of is removing Sightlines restaurant.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 They have no choice but to renovate it but obviously it would be nice if they could actually build an actual Baseball stadium. They badly f***ed up in the 80's. They had prime location, a good team, and the money and go ahead from everyone. And they designed that piece of s***.

They need to put a stadium there. If there isn't enough space, they can just make new land. Everything south of front street used to be water back in the day until they filled it in Have the stadium face northeast so that left field has the downtown core and right field has the lake for splash hits
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 The article features an architect from B+H. They do some pretty cool s***. http://www.bharchitects.com/en/projects/#!filter=sector:sports-recreation Not sure if they won the bid, but I hope so.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Left field for splash hits so Vlad Jr and Bo Bichette can dump some balls in the lake. fair. We don't want to cause any accidents on Lakeshore
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 It was bad timing as much as anything. The stadium is a child of 80's excess. At the time it was dubbed the 8th wonder of the world. Everyone marvelled at the first fully retractable stadium roof in the world. It's arguable that the skydom set the standard for which new stadiums for big sports teams are now being buit. BUUUUUT..... all those other guys learned from what the dome did wrong and they now build stadiums specific to the sports they host rather than trying to be super-multi-everything-plexes.

They arent doing that. It said that was one of the improvement Shapiro made to progressive field so outsiders passing by could get a glimpse. That wouldnt be possible at RC

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Oh f*** off with your taxpayer draining dumb games that literally no one cares about I hope the United States loses every Olympic hosting bid from now until forever.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Left field for splash hits so Vlad Jr and Bo Bichette can dump some balls in the lake. I believe all ballparks are configured in the same orientation based on sunlight...a new stadium would probably have the exact orientation as the dome does now.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Oh f*** off with your taxpayer draining dumb games that literally no one cares about It's great. Cities are finally starting to catch on to the financial s***-show the Olympics are and the list of candidates to host the games get shorter as time goes on. I'm on board with the casino idea though.

The only way this ever happens within the next three decades is if Rogers sells the Dome property to some developers for a quadrillion dollars (after buying the thing for $25 million) and uses part of the profits to build a new stadium (and better not be one penny of taxpayer funds). Outside of that, this thing is going to stand there until it is at least 50 years old and there's a legit reason to replace it.
Gary Verified Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 I'd like to see Rogers add hot tub seating on field level like they have in some of the warmer climates in the US.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 No way grass is happening in this stadium, it would probably cost $400M to retrofit a drainage system in there.
Gary Verified Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 What would it cost to build a brand new stadium?
baseballsss Verified Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 What would it cost to build a brand new stadium? Bring the Jays to Regina. We just built a useless ass stadium that we can only use for a quarter of the year. We'll give you the Riders and we'll change our stadium to a baseball stadium.

Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 What would it cost to build a brand new stadium? Well, the Rangers new stadium is going to cost about a billion. That's going to have a retractable roof, and a hotel. I'd imagine if the Blue Jays ever built a new stadium, it would probably also have to have a roof of some sort as well.

I'm surprised they'd invest $400 million in renovating Rogers Centre when they could get a brand new stadium for double that. I wonder how many more years they expect to get out of Rogers Centre after the reno?

I wonder how many more years they expect to get out of Rogers Centre after the reno? 20 years, at least. Maybe more. They're married to the location. And they bought the stadium cheap. But I do wonder if they keep tabs on available land. There may come a time when there's no available land left. The only realistic location I can think of would be Ontario Place.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Oh f*** off with your taxpayer draining dumb games that literally no one cares about Commonwealth is likely happening. It has been taken away from South Africa and Toronto is one of 4 cities that can do it. All we need is an athlete village. And Pan Am was an incredibly successful games in Toronto...and considering you linked to 4 building built because of the Pan Am's as "cool s***" that would be pretty hypocritical of you to now call it taxpayer draining.

I didn't read the whole thing, but I dont agree with his premise about the upper level being closer to the field. All that does is create an overhang for the 100 level which turns great seats into garbage. If you've ever sat row 10-12 in the 100 level outfield at RC you'll know how brutal the overhang can be. You completely lose any ball thats put in the air. I refuse to sit in those seats now

Personally, I think they need more seats with shade. The 100 level is a cesspool of body odour and sunburns in the summer. It's unhealthy and generally unfit for families with young children unfortunately.
