I don't think it's a given that Lawrie gets a major league deal. I like him as depth in AAA, but prefer Barney as the backup IF due to his shortstop defense.

What's wrong with cutting Smoak and replacing him with Lawrie?

Perhaps nothing, but they are going to give Smoak at least a couple of months so it's a moot point.

So let me get this straight...If we picked up Lawrie it replaces Barney ....when Devon is back?

Cause if it was up to me....I would have Lawrie replace Smoak....have Pearce and Morales DH and 1st base.

If the Jays are concerned about Smoaks contract....the money is spent already so don't worry about it.

Do what u can to field the very best team possible....even if it means admitting you were wrong by handing

a slug 8 million

Do whats best for the team Shatkins...and lets have Lawrie replace Smoak.

There's this little thing called a "budget" that Rogers controls.

@GreggZaun

Why would anyone competitive be interested in Brett Lawrie, it's not a contest in athleticism, it's baseball!!

Agreed, he has club house issues every where he plays. His ego is bigger than the team. The Jays have a solid group and message. Lawrie doesn't jive with either.

f*** him I don't want him anywhere near this team. Apparently he had clubhouse issues with the A's before he was traded? Yeah I'll pass, I'd rather take Ryan cant-hit-his-way-out-of-a-paper-bag Goins/Valbuena/Petit

What would it cost to sign Lawrie at this point? $1M? Pagan likely costs the same.

Shatkins has to be able to walk in and explain that for $2M we can significantly improve the team depth

My response was in relation to the poster suggesting we cut Smoak and his salary.

That's a fixed cost though, regardless of whether he plays for us or not. If we can upgrade Smoak for 1M, then that 1M is the only consideration, not what we would owe Smoak for not playing.

Yep. I'm suggesting that too. You walk in and like a man and a true leader - you admit your mistake and explain you have an opportinity to improve 2 team weaknesses for about $2M.

I don't see how or why Pagan is a 1 million dollar player. If he was willing to accept such a cheap contract, he'd be on a team already.

Funniest thing I've seen all weekend. Here is Jim Bowden (OPSBI guy) citing Rotoworld citing him about something he tweeted earlier.

Why, Jim?

Very disturbing indeed.

He's clearly slipping slowly into senility.

Yes to this x 1000

For anyone saying no and this Donaldson injury ends up being more serious, you are going to look back at this missed opportunity and regret it. Travis and Tulowitzki are also not the type of players you say no to depth to.

Lawrie may be a douche but he is *our* douche. The story from AA was that he didn't want to give him up but he had to give up something for Donaldson. It wasn't like he was shown the door like Escobar or Valencia. I wouldn't consider the clubhouse issue to be a problem, especially if he is in a limited role like he would be if all goes well with this team.

Theoretically I'd be down with this, but I can imagine Lawrie acting like a nuisance and causing problems if he doesn't get regular playing time. Probably not worth the headache unless they can get him in the lineup every day.

Sounds like there's a story here...

I just heard that he had two accidents in the underground. One where he was on the DL and hit a pillar (not Kevin) while doing donuts in the empty parking lot.

Lawrie? He wouldn't do that...
