Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Goins: 450 PA -0.3 fWAR 61 RBI 81 RBI per 600 PA pace Spent most of the year batting in the bottom of the order on a team ranking 13 out of 15 in the AL in OBP. As in other words, not a spot favouring RBI numbers like Joe Carter. Very strange year.

West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 My 20 game pack went up $115 in 2018 compared to 2017, I look forward to having more legroom next season with less people at the dome anyways so I guess it's worth it. Kind of annoying how they moved the bobblehead give away days all over the week now and not just Sunday's.

wamco Verified Member Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 So, the Jays are going to finish first in AL attendance to go along with a last place finish. Payroll has to go up...doesn't it? I'd like to imagine they lead the TV ratings by a land slide. What now? I'd f***ing hope so as the fans have gone above and beyond on their end . Got 2 teams in division spending to luxury tax, let's go!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Kind of annoying how they moved the bobblehead give away days all over the week now and not just Sunday's. Why is that annoying? Its about damn time. They should do giveaways on the least attended games of the week to get asses in the seats. Doing giveaways on the weekend makes no sense because those games generally sell regardless. I'm extremely happy the did this. They should do giveaways on like Monday night games vs Tampa Bay.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Someone in baseball needs to do a cost-benefit analysis of doing giveaways every night. Guarantee a sell out crowd all 81 home games in exchange for giving out a wobbly headed doll that costs less than $5 each to make. Totally worth it. Teams like the Cardinals and Cubs could run out a bobblehead of all their significant players in franchise history for years.

Any front office accounting department that didn't run numbers on stuff like that should be replaced immediately, and I suspect they all run them. It's likely that keeping things rare helps drive excitement and attendance, which would turn to people simply expecting freebies every game if it wasn't (meaning it would cost the team money, and wouldn't budge sales). There may also be licensing issues or royalties to factor in, especially with the bobbleheads.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 By having it on the Sundays they got everyone to line up 2 hours before the game so once they get you inside you were buying concessions, jays shop merchandise etc which is a lot of extra revenue even if the game may sell out anyway. No one's lining up to get in the dome an hour before on a Wednesday in May to get a bobblehead. When they did the giveaways during the week this year you could stroll up at 6:45 and get one pretty easily.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 The way that Atkins was speaking a couple weeks ago if the want him they would have to put up a kings ransom for him.

Ok... So who do they have that we'd want.

Reyes, Carson Kelly is interesting.... Luke weaver there are pieces there but they all might have to be involved
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 St. Louis is not moving their top two pitching prospects for one year of Donaldson. Besides, stay the f*** away from pitchers!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Flaherty, Bader, and Gyorko Too much to ask for 1 year of JD, obviously Gyorko's contract runs out end of 2019. Vladdy ready for sure by then. Jays can run out a Bader, Alford, Hernandez OF. Move whats his name (he suxx so much i cant remember his name)

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I really hope they aren't just giving Biagini a rotation spot next year.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I really hope they aren't just giving Biagini a rotation spot next year. The 2017 season hasn't ended yet and Biagini is already the 5th ranked starter signed for next year and I'm assuming Borucki will get a serious look next spring. Very good chance he starts the year in the BP unless he earns the #5 spot or at least two SP ranked ahead of him start the year on the DL. One or two signings and Biagini could drop to #8 on the depth chart. Though I'm personally rooting for him and think there is a SP spot for him in the future.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I really hope they aren't just giving Biagini a rotation spot next year. He's been pretty solid this year. Shatkins said he wants 8-9 MLB starters. I agree with you he shouldn't be given a rotation spot but I think he'd be a great fit in the 6 or 7 spot for us. I'd probably start him in Buffalo and woulf fully expect him to get 20 starts or so.
Cbert Verified Member Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 STL needs a closer, too. Maybe Donaldson and Osuna for their top 5 prospects? One can dream... I wouldn't mind trying to get Reyes and O'Neill from the Cards though.

Cbert Verified Member Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Personally I'm staying far away from O'Neill as possible. Fair. That K rate is pretty bad. Guess I'm just a sucker for the Canadian prospects. I wouldn't be against the Jays holding on to a pitcher in a trade with the Cards and using the extra pieces plus a couple of our own prospects in a trade for an established outfielder or starting pitcher though. Sign one top pitcher or outfielder to a big contract and use guys acquired in a Donaldson trade to get the other piece without decimating our farm system.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 So it's pretty hard to believe that Bautista provided less value in his final year as a Jay than Ryan Goins did. He should probably not play tomorrow to preserve his .201 BA.
