Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 The cop who arrested Winfield sounds like a Howdy Doody dumb f***. Hartery: I still have the baseball stuck here in my cabinet . . . The only thing I kind of regret is not getting him to sign the baseball. Hartery: When he came back to the Blue Jays, again I was working a game and I was in that same hallway. I said, “Hi,” I told him who I was, and he didn’t want to talk. I said, “OK, no problem,” and I just walked, gave him his privacy Why the hell would he sign the ball and why would he want to chit chat with you? lol https://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2013/08/02/the_dave_winfield_seagull_incident_vs_toronto_blue_jays_at_exhibition_stadium_30_years_later_an_oral_history.html
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Is there any chance Borucki has earned himself a September start (or sooner) with last nights outing? Dude is crushing AA. Not sure about a start, but could very well come up for some pen work. He threw 135 innings last year so I'm guessing they'd want him up around 170 after this season and he's just 119 so far after losing that time to injury. New Hampshire has no shot at the playoffs so he probably will come up as soon as their season is over and September callup happen. May even see him in the Arizona Fall League
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Biagini sent to AAA to "strengthen his arm" according to Gibby - looks like when he comes back he'll be starting again. Makes sense to use the remainder of the season as a testing ground - get Alford up too please.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Just bring Borucki up now, we wasted so many starts on scrubs like Valdez, Bolsinger and Liriano.

Weird he needs to build up in AAA when he didn't need to earlier in the season, they just had him throw 45 pitches one start, then 60 the next, and 80.... and so on. Wonder why they're sending him down to do that same thing now?

He hasn't done it properly in ages, just to clean up mechanics. 2 starts and he's back in our rotation. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-option-biagini-short-term-long-term-mind/

Earlier in the year he was considered a spot starter. He's probably a permanent fixture in the rotation for the rest of this year and maybe in 2018. The Jays pen can't afford another couple of starts of guaranteed 3-4 innings so get him 100% right in the minors.

They pretty much said that's the idea, in other interviews with Walker and Gibbons. Doing it right this time without taxing the pen.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Cole has only pitched 12 innings this season but hasn't given up an earned run. Nothing to lose by giving him a chance. How many times has Bolsinger been DFA now? Must be quite demoralising for him.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 this little gem popped up in my player news in fantasy Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Aaron Sanchez (blister) continues to make "slow progress." Advice: "That's all I can tell you," said Gibbons. "Hopefully he makes it back. We'll see." uuuuuuuugh
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 If the Royals lose we are only 4 games back. It's crazy how smashed together ever is in the AL. If Estrada is rebounding and we can find one more reliable starter (Biagini/Borucki) maybe we can make the rest of the season at least interesting.

The Jays also have a bunch of games left against the teams they are chasing. It is a huge long shot especially since they'll be throwing scrubs out there in place of actual big league starters without Sanchez and Liriano, but if they can at least make September mean something it would be better than waiting for the season to end in August so the off season can start. Damn if Osuna doesn't blow 4 saves in 3 weeks.....
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Damn if Osuna doesn't blow 4 saves in 3 weeks..... Yeah if he only blows 2 we'd only be 2 games back right now. Kind of crazy. What really f***ed us though was that 6-17 start. We've been pretty decent but for that s*** start.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 The 3 games vs the Royals, 7 against the Rays and 8 against the Yanks are gonna be massive. The season is far from over.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Oakland-Seattle game now tied 6-6. We really need the A's to take this one to squeeze the AL even more.

We've been pretty decent but for that s*** start. We've had so many things go wrong this season, and we're still not that far off the wildcard. FWIW I can't see us making it this year, but at least it's encouraging for next season.

It's been an uphill battle all season because of that, and the team isn't as good as it was in 2015-16 to go on an extended run to compensate for it. It's kind of annoying that the 2nd wc is so trash this year that even a slightly better than .500 season by the Jays would have put them right there, but s*** happens.

I'm interested to see where we are at the end of this home stand. If we are only a couple back it wouldn't hurt to try and pick up a cheap SS or SP to make a run over the final month and a half. But the problem isn't necessarily the amount of games back it's the amount of teams that we have to jump. Of course as I express even a minimal amount of hope here we very well could drop 3 of the next 4 and fall completely out of it. It's really tenuous right now and we need a win streak asap. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Tulo is done for the year. What a pathetic season he had. 3 years and 58 million left to go on his deal.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Tulo is a massive anchor around this team's neck.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Tulo is a massive anchor around this team's neck. Getting more production at 2B and from the OF needs to be a big priority as long as we can't count on getting much from our SS.

The MIF is a disaster. Tulowitzki is both injury-prone and bad, and Travis is injury-prone. If the team plans to win in 2018, and plans to roster both these guys, they basically need two other middle infielders that project at close to league average if played every day. Ryan Goins absolutely can not be one of those players. Someone like Eduardo Nunez needs to be brought in.

I could see the Cubs perhaps having the depth to want to free up the money too.

We need to get Nunez or Kendrick and maybe even both. Or at least one would be good and then make an effort to get a good bench player who can play SS. Can't count on Tulo or Travis at all.

He's never looked like he's wanted to be here. Maybe he just has a miserable looking puss all the time, but he's certainly played like he's miserable.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Zobrist would be a nice fit. I could see the Cubs perhaps having the depth to want to free up the money too. If we're lucky, Gurriel Jr reaches his potential and we have our own Zobrist for cheap.
