Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Red Sox say they are going to trade for a 3B before the trade deadline.....is it time to trade Donaldson or wait until the offseason? Neither. Keep him through next year until he hits free agency.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Neither. Keep him through next year until he hits free agency. No way in hell do they let him walk for absolutely nothing. Especially with the makeup of the team as it sits now for next season.

Especially with the makeup of the team as it sits now for next season. Watch them. There is definitely a chance they hang on to him until he's a FA. We have a decent enough team with Donaldson. Without him we kind of suck. Might as well keep him and compete next year. Then when he walks the dream team of Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette will be relatively close to the majors to help the team avoid a total collapse. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them move him but if they are going to do so my guess is they wait until the last possible moment which is the trade deadline next season.

This offense is a complete dumpster fire outside of JD, Martin and Smoak (god who would have ever thought we'd say that). Outside of them, we'll be lucky to get another player over the 1.5 WAR plateau. Unfortunately, I don't see much changing the rest of this year or next year (where its probably unlikely Smoak will be this good and we should expect more decline from Martin, Tulo, etc.) - outside of maybe Pearce tearing it up (if he ever gets healthy). Jose is a shell of his former self. Morales is what he is. Travis may never play a full season. Pillar's defense and base running is declining (and he still can't hit). Good pitching will only take us so far. I'm not sure even with JD that can actually compete this year, let alone next year without a lot of good fortune.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Jesus Christ. The injuries this team sustains...

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Parmley wasn't on the 40 man. So someone would need to be removed.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Leblebijian or Fields seem like better options...no?

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Wow this guy is legit terrible. Why on earth would we roster him. Good Lord
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Parmley is so boring. 27 years old and a 95wRC+ in AAA.

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 To have a backup OF just in case someone else gets hurt until Pearce comes back So the idea is that he will be rotting on the bench and they don't want to subject anyone with any amount of upside to that. I guess that makes sense

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Nobody's going to say anything about Zeke rehabbing?!! Love or hate him, hes provided some value for us this year, and we kinda need him back.

Especially if he steals playing time from Pearce.
