Yes and I think I explained why I think that relatively well. Look I hate Zaun as much as the next guy but just because he's insufferable doesn't mean everything he says is wrong. Hypocrical as hell sure but not necessarily wrong.

 

Do you think Grilli has similar bad habits?

 

I mean I don't think Stro is 'developing' bad habits. He's always been exuberant and shown his emotions on the field. I'd render a guess there are players in every team in baseball who have similar mannerisms. At some point will it piss off another team and cause a fight? Probably (in spite of it being extremely hypocritical) - but lets be honest, in competition, men will always find something to be pissed off at the other team about. Baseball players have been getting pissing each other off and starting fights/beanball wars since baseball was invented. This isn't some new phenomenon created by "new age" players celebrating on the field.

 

I thought we were getting to a point where teams were a lot more accepting of the fact that baseball is fun and showing emotion isn't a sign of disrespect (which it's seemingly been forever) and every fist pump or bat flip didn't have to result in beanballs and meaningless bench clearing yelling matches. Does anyone know if bench clearing events or beanballs are actually up or down vs. previous years or decades?

If find it odd he can harp on a guy for celebrating a CG win, but when a player hits a walk off HR - the whole f***ing team is allowed to scream and cheer and crowd around home plate...the batter can toss his helmet off as high in the air as possible while rounding 3rd...teammates can bring out Gatorade jugs and drench people, etc......yet nobody's ever offended or upset by that?

 

If the whole team acts like they've never won a game in the bottom of the 9th, or in extra innings - it's perfectly acceptable....but if one ballplayer does it (after something less common than a walk off hit in todays environment) - he stands out and thus it's not acceptable.

I'm not Greg Zaun.I don't think players should feel obligated to bottle all emotions nor do I think that players actually did that in his day and even before that. I do believe that there are certain times where letting your emotions getting the best of you can be detrimental to the team. There's a difference between say Grilli fist pumping and Lawrie throwing his helmet and getting his ass suspended. I don't endorse the entirity of Zaun's criticisms. I do believe that Stroman should cut it with all the crowing he does at opponents. I think that's going to start some s***.

If we can split the double header today that will make for a 4-3 road trip where Latos and Lawrence saw 4 of the 7 starts. I would would be pretty pumped for that. But you're right, it would be nice to go on a win streak or win 6 of 7 or something. If we can get healthy soon the month of May has a pretty decent schedule for us. Lots of home games and all the road games are on the east coast.

Does anyone know anything about Ohlman or Maile? I think Maile is an average framer, good defensively, and a s***** bat. He'd easily be better than Salty. Ohlman used to be a fringe prospect with an okay bat and shaky defense but his bat has fallen off a cliff yet he remains at Catcher. I don't know much about him but I assume he's better than Salty as well. I don't know how fat Navarro has gotten but he'd be worth the major league minimum probably.

At this point, Maile or Ohlman, or even Reese McGuire would be upgrades over Salty.. as for Navarro, there's likely reasons no team will sign him.. perhaps cutting Salty will be considered when the Jays get back to Toronto.

Advice: He shouldn't be too far off from game action. Tulowitzki was placed on the disabled list last weekend with a strained right hamstring.

Josh Donaldson (calf) will travel to the Blue Jays' spring training complex on Sunday to resume hitting.

 

Advice: It's the next step in the progression as he works his way back from a strained right calf. He's two weeks into a projected 2-4 week timetable, so it shouldn't be too long before Donaldson tests things out in game action.

Perception is interesting on things. Time of the Dickey for Thor trade. Jays were projected for 79 wins and Snydergaard was a top 30 prospect in baseball when they traded for three years of Dickey who was projected for 2.5 wins....and the Jays threw in a top 25 prospect in TdA. Vlad is a 17 year old borderline top 100 prospect and the Jays are projected for 84 wins and many don't want them to trade for 2 years of Cutch who is projected for 3.5 wins.
