The upgrade from the current FO to one with either of those clowns is probably worth over $100 Million if not more in value. Crazy how lucky Rogers was.

http://www.torontosun.com/2015/01/23/the-inside-story-on-how-rogers-tried-to-replace-blue-jays-president-paul-beeston

Shapiro saved this org. I'd extend him another five years on top of whatever he has left on his contract just to make sure Rogers is not in a position to hire execs again.

As far as Duquette, the O's have made the playoffs in 3 of the last 5 years. I don't think he's that bad, but his comments on Jose are definitely "old white man" comments that usually happen in baseball when talking about Latin players.

This sounds confusing. Based on what I've seen on the O's board, racism is black and white. O's FO seems to have a problem with players who aren't American. Wish I had linked to the article, but it's only a few days old and seems to label the O's as anti Latin American. It's not going to be a coincidence when Machado walks while Jones, Trumbo and Davis were retained. Weiters would have gotten the same treatment if it weren't for his spat with Mr. 50hr himself, Brady Anderson.

Machado is worth a shitload more money than all three of those guys. You'd need to provide some evidence for your claims.

Painting it like Machado won't be re-signed because he's Latino is really dumb and disingenuous. Why did the Orioles draft him in the first place? Why would his ethnicity have any bearing on whether the team retains a great player or doesn't?

He hits the ball hard, a lot of fly balls, and draws a decent amount of walks. Unfortunately he strikes out way too much and can't hit a breaking ball to save his life. Not sure there is much they can do with him unless a hitting coach fixes him. Just let him suck for a month and then put Pearce at first full time.

What's the estimated difference between his demands and the Jays at this stage? It can't be much more than 1M. Is that really worth letting LF situation go to the actual season in this state? I love the Shatkins regime very much so far, but to leave a position in this state to start the season has a weird feel to it.

Wasn't it reported that Pagan is holding out for $5M? That's probably a lot more than $1M more than the Jays want to pay.

Then maybe 2M more at most? Pagan at 1/3-5M seems like a no brainer, unless he's looking for 6+ or a 2 year deal.

If the Jays are interested, then maybe Pagan's price has gone down a bit since no team is biting on $5mm. If they can sign him and still have a decent amount left to spend mid-season, then they have to consider it. As injury prone as he is, he is an upgrade over Zeke and Smoak against righties. Every win matters at this point.

Yes, he wants 5 million.

I'd do 1 year 5 million. Definitely worth it to help shore up the outfield. If he splits time with Upton, maybe he doesn't get injured.

+ an every day job

At this point you would think a guaranteed job/salary before spring training ends would be better than holding out in hopes of a full time guaranteed job

Justin Smoak getting paid $4.1M and they're trying to pay a starting OF $1M?

They have this thing called a 'budget' eh. Obviously they'd like a do-over on Smoak, but this isn't the NFL.

Unless he's being hush hush about it, Pagan does not seem to be in mind

Yeah he touted Carerra and said between several players we have such as Pearce and him, we should be able to get average production out of LF. If after 60 days we're not getting average production we can easily upgrade the position

Easily upgrade to above average production? Not so simple unless he moves prospects which is unlikely. Just a marketing message....
