Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 he looks like a post-op tranny I laughed. Kinda true.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 How the f*** do you know they're talking if you're not listening Stro?
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/look-here-for-your-justin-smoak-optimism/ Basically a quick look at Smoak's exit velocity, launch angle, and contact rate to find similar players. Most similar players had decent success, while he most certainly did not. Perhaps some reason for hope? Probably not...
george09 Verified Member Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 So if Smoak and Upton continue to play like crap the rest of ST who's taking over in LF and 1B? I assume Pearce at 1B, but who takes LF? Maybe they sign Pagan? Wouldn't mind Pompey but it seems like he'll be in AAA again to start the year..

Yeah I remember reading about those factors being the reason behind the Jays optimism with this guy - and to some extent I get it. If you think you have reason to believe a player could be a breakout candidate, you want to be the team that helps him make that adjustment to find success - rather than being the last team to give up on him before he does find it. But at some point here soon the results are going to have to start to line up with whatever upside they think he has or he's just not worth keeping around.

If Tellez continues to adjust successfully at each level, he could speed that process up to 2-3 months, we can hope.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 So basically as things stand. Ryan Goins will make the opening day roster. And Kevin Pillar looks like he will lead off. Can we get Pagan and Lawrie please. They can't seriously have Zeke and Goins on this roster with 2 upgrades on the free agent list.

DFA Zeke and Travis can start the year off on the DL to make room for Lawrie. When Travis returns then we can DFA Smoak. I have no idea how much they would cost though. BJBirdy Verified Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Stroman actually blocked me on Twitter about a month ago. I didn't even tag him in a tweet. I just generically tweeted out that I hoped that one day he finds a nice girl that he loves almost as much as he loves himself. Clearly he searches his own name on Twitter because I was blocked literally 60 minutes later.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Like WTF, I remember when we picked him up they said he was often injured in Detroits farm system....I cant find anything on that now
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 He missed 56 games in the minors with oblique and hernia injuries, in 12' and 14'
Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 He missed 56 games in the minors with oblique and hernia injuries, in 12' and 14' Lets hope he returns soon because I love our lineup with him leading off as opposed to Barney at 9
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 We can do a lot worse than Having Barney as our everyday 2B. If he can average anywhere around .650 OPS he is probably a 3 WAR player.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I'm more scared of having Zeke or Pillar leading off. Having 3 black holes in the lineup to kick off the season.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 He's the new Michael Saunders Rocco Baldelli
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 The f*** is wrong with him this time?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 The f*** is wrong with him this time? He's still recovering from the surgery he had on the bone bruise he suffered in the playoffs. He recovers like a 90 year old woman apparently.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Getting pretty tired of Travis tbh. He's a good player but no way does he ever get through a season without significant DL time. He doesn't even deserve the lead off role either. He only has it because he's not a premier slugger and has respectable OBP skills. He looks better hitting 6 or 7 in this lineup, IMO.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Thats a shame, was hoping to see a full year of Travis healthy

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
