As long as he keeps handing out gift baskets to all the Miami women he ploughs, I don't care what he does in the front office.

Lmao

1. He should start with Loria's wife #BossMove

2. Just wait till he rolls out the Cooperstown First Ballot Hall Of Fame Special Edition gift baskets in 9 years. Those are gonna be super swag.

Thinking the Jays will land a WC spot this season is hilarious.

No doubt.

Mathematically possible but very improbable. They could go on a 20 game winning streak starting today and still probably not have a wildcard spot.

We do play a number of teams we're chasing during that time period, we're 3.5 back of a wildcard, and some of the teams we're chasing play each other too. I'm pretty comfortable in saying that if we went on a 20 game streak, we'd probably have a few games lead in the first wildcard position.

Agreed, but the alternative is watching an old ass team with no young players play out the string. Some blind hope at least is a good time passer until the off-season.

Houston holds on for the W and Texas loses. Jays are now a combined 17 games back combined from all the teams above them for the 2nd wildcard, almost certainly 16.5 unless O's have a miracle comeback. This is a massive improvement from the 23 combined games back on August 6 one week ago. Today alone they won 4 games on their opponents. LAA probably at 3 games above ,500 tho. They need to lose a couple so the AL pack stays close.

lol wut 20 game winning streak and we're probably battling for the division. 2nd wildcard gets big max 83 wins imo.

It's called hyperbole.

Just saying that overtaking 7 teams, even if the gap is only 3.5 games is a monumentally near impossible task

Just by winning 3 or 4 against TB (Wishful thinking with Tepesch on the mound one game) we probably pass 3 teams. The odds are incredibly low, yes, but I'd rather have the standings the way they are in '17 than in '16, where we would be 8 games back with 7 teams above us.

I'd see what happens these next four games. If we play well we should keep Estrada (and try to resign him to a 2 year deal in the offseason) and give the Mets a bag of balls for Ass-Dribble Cabrera and make this last month and a half fun. Cozart, Kinsler, Phillips, etc. would be other options.

It's not a major stretch to say the Jays can go 10-5 to close out the month and get back in the race.

We've seen Donaldson carry this team before.

Sure but who cares? At this point what's left but to cheer for them to finish strong.

Using the average needed win total of 83 for the 2nd WC spot, the jays would need to go 27 and 18 over their last 45 games.

There's currently 7 teams above them, the 2 best of which would only need to win 24 and 25 games over their remaining schedules, not to mention the other 5 teams that would need between 25 and 27 wins as well.

For the Jays to do what they need to do AND have 7 other teams not do what they need to do is virtually impossible, especially given the state of the roster

Well sure, hope for it, but when they fall short it really shouldn't be disappointing.

Considering the current state of the team with a lot of key injuries and the quality (or rather lack thereof of the replacements), what would be considered finishing strong? I guess going 25 and 20 to end up at .500 would qualify.

The team does not have enough pitching to do much in the post-season anyways (unless Sanchez made a triumphant return to form) so probably not even worth worrying about. Giving some young guys like Alford and Gurriel playing time may be of more value than chasing a highly unlikely shot at a wild card spot.

Try to be optimistic but an offensive lineup that includes Goins, Pillar, Lopez, Barney, it's not very promising.

Not to mention Tepesch....

Really stroman and Happ are the only starters that make me even think a W is possible since they're the only ones that might keep the opposition under 3 runs.

Estrada is a maybe. He could give up 2 or 10 on any given day

Exactly. These guys pitch and we start feeling good again, then the other days we have to put some of the garbage that we've been putting out and you lose all hope. No momentum.

Lol absolutely it would.

I don't get the losing mentality around here sometimes. It's August, the trade deadline has passed. I'd rather watch the Jays play good ball for the rest of the year rather than be a league laughing stock.

I think we passed being disappointed a long time ago.

Who said "momentum is only as good as your next day's starting pitcher"

Cause amen to that
