KevinGregg Verified Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 It's funny, we were all so happy to see him go, but he would have started 30+ games and been our SP4. I for one would be happy to have him back next year. I was happy to see him go as well, but the trash we ended up running out there was so much worse. Bring him back and give him the 5th starter spot. Let Biagini start in AAA, or else just put him in the Bullpen where I think his stuff plays up better.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I was one of the few who was sad to see him leave. He's always productive for a backend SP. The backup C spot matters but Thole couldn't have been any worse than the slop we trotted out there last year anyway. Dickey is annoying to have on the team but at the end of each season the juice is worth the squeeze when it comes to him.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I think Dickey stays in the NL, assuming he gets multiple offers and he gets to choose. Or that's where he should stay if he is smart and wants to extend his career. I think people suggesting he comes back are forgetting how bad he was in 2016. Biagini's numbers in 2017 are better than Dickey's numbers in 2016 across the board except ERA. I'd honestly rather give a shot to Biagini again, or Borucki. Rather than waste $8M on dead weight. Playing in Toronto and Texas hasn't helped him much, but his whole career's AL/NL split has been heavily favoured towards the NL.
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Dickey's option was declined (= to 7.5 mil). Kind of surprising as he's coming off a good year. What I thought I read was that he's hanging 'em up On other news, Hutchison is a FA. I still remember watching him at Globe Life outduelling Darvish several years back. That was unreal... Also I wonder what would Shatkins do if the Tribe decide to decline Brantley's option
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Somewhere out there, there is a Jimcanuck Nationals fan hoping and praying for a 10-30 start next year so they trade Harper and have a better shot at being good in 2022. Harper =/= Donaldson I'd be looking to extend Harper for 8 or 9 years if I was the Nats. Donaldson is in his decline years. I'd trade Donaldson for Reyes + Gyorko in a heartbeat, then renegotiate Tulo's contract to pay him $40M in 2018 and $6M in 2019 and 2020 Would free up plenty of $$ to make a run at a top free agent after the 2018 season to pair with Vladito and Bichette at the start of 2019

I'm quite surprised about this. He just put another 2-win season on the board, and is about as reliable as it gets as far as being able to go 30+ starts. If he wants to pitch next year, he should have no trouble finding a home at that salary. Yeah, Dickey had a pretty decent season overall. Still eats up innings and gives you average production. I don't want him back, especially if he's going to dictate who the back up catcher is again, but could do a lot worse for the #5 spot. I believe he's retiring, they would've picked that up, he's hinted as much a few times this year.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Easy Peasy... Not easy but doable. Cards say no to that. Reyes + a lesser prospect then.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 There's a chance Bruce Maxwell might be an enormous shitbag. That's a really, really specific thing to lie about though, like... Why, out of all of the restaurants he's been to, would he pick that one to lie about? I wasn't there, I dunno the specifics, but like... Why?

It's one of those stories where one side is blatantly lying through their teeth, and we may never know which one. He's the one who gave the WAPO the relevant quotes on the incident. Doesn't sound like Maxwell wasn't particularly interested in revisiting the incident ("I'm really over that happening and it's BS.") https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2017/10/24/its-bs-mlb-player-who-knelt-during-national-anthem-denied-service-at-alabama-restaurant/?utm_term=.53e2cb80c003

Problem is you can see how both sides could lie. The waiter could be covering his ass with this story... But on the other hand would he be that stupid, as to refuse service to a celeb, knowing full well that it would be made public? Unless he wanted to be a hero. In the other hand, Maxwell could very well be using this to further his agenda.... Or it could be completely legit.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 This story is nonsense... who the f*** would ever recognize Bruce Maxwell?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 wow, after a pretty nice run for a flawed team

So we're to assume a random waiter in Alabama would recognize the backup catcher of the Oakland A's? For me, that's the story right there, lol. 99% of waiters in Toronto wouldn't recognize Raffy Lopez.

If the waiter really did recognize him I think he'd be more excited that he might get a good tip off a guy who makes some pretty good money rather than trying to make some political statement.
