The number I was guesstimating but just read Atkins interviews... All the beatwriters are saying he isn't coming back...

Yeah, I've read all that... thought you heard an offer?! So talking out your ass, lol.

The Jays FO said he isn't coming back unless he takes a ridiculous team friendly deal. Which obviously isn't going to happen.

I put 3/45 with a question mark after it as to lead on that I was guessing a number.

Okay... I'd still ask where you read that(above, without the numbers), same difference, mate!

I think he could play LF/1b/DH, not many would agree with me though. I'd like to point out that Morales is a pretty big injury risk...So securing Edwin at this price of 80 mill, would be fantastic.

Thankfully we will probably only see Morales be at the DH spot. He shouldn't get injured too much being the DH. If he plays in the field however then it could be a different story.

Just go sign Saunders for less

Saunders was one of the worst base runners I ever watched play the game. It's like he has NO idea what he's doing out there.

Wild Card game he had a base running blunder, can't believe he didn't score from second on the Pillar double but he had a lot of terrible base running mistakes during the year.

Looked like a 7 year old

(the freak knee injury aside) who would've thought that Saunders wouldn't be a solid upgrade over Melky both on the basepaths and shagging flies in LF?

Yeah, that's really stupid of him.

Declining 80M over 4 years was also very stupid.

In hindsight sure. But hard to fault him in context

I hate seeing our two guys so unappreciated.

I don't see why we can't bring both of them back. Get a reasonable deal. Edwin 3/55 and Jose 3/35.

With those unexpected savings, the money wasted on Smoak won't even matter.

C Martin

1B Morales

2B Travis

3B Donaldson

SS Tulo

LF Pearce

CF Pillar

RF Bautista

EH Encarnacion

Frankly, we could still use an OF, and just have Pearce be a super utility guy. With all the old and fragile players, he'll probably get 500 AB.

Locking up both for 3 years will handcuff the future of the team

I wouldn't go more than 2 years with Bats. That said, you could always look to trade Morales once Tellez is ready to inject some youth.

It's funny because if these two guys were playing anywhere else the board would be pounding the table for one of or both of them.

I'd swap Morales and Edwin... but that'd be nice.

Fit in EE? Uh, considering Smoak has no place above AA, pretty easy.

Giving Smoak a job outside of vending hotdogs is a waste of money. I am so sick of Rogers and their penny pinching ways. This team has utter garbage for 1B, RF, LF and seemingly ZERO interest to put anything other than garbage in those spots.

Not for 3 years, you wouldn't. They can re-tool around the older guys, no doubt. Just would take a bit of creativity.

Don't spend on the bullpen. Relievers prices are sky high, and it's not worth paying for mid-tier relievers who are volatile. Just roll with the Dermody's, Barnes, Tepera's and trade for reclamation projects as the season goes by like they did with Benoit and Grilli.

Then the question becomes what you do with the extra cash. Maybe try to squeeze a little more out of ownership and try to resign both Edwin and Jose to short term deals. That'll put us really over the top for next season. Rotate between 1B and DH with Morales and Edwin removing the Smoak factor, and hope to god Jose doesn't get injured played OF.

The next 'value buy' out there will be taking failed starting pitchers and converting them into effective relief pitchers.

There's a ton of guys out there that aren't good starters, but would work well as relievers. Tommy Milone would have been a great pickup for us. Wade Leblanc would have been good too, and both those guys signed for under a million.

All you need to do is look at their stats first time through the order.

And then they're probably likely to improve on that, because they don't have to save anything in the tank for the third or fourth innings.
