The difference in commitment between John Henry and Rogers is immense.

Sox have the best kind of owner. A guy who wants to win at all costs but who also doesn't meddle (much) and lets the smart people he hires do their jobs. It would be nice to have an owner who cared more about winning than selling TV packages. But I guess it could be worse.

Neither do I, Moncada is seen by most evaluators as an elite talent, and IIRC Kopech has fantastic stuff (he's the one with the 100 mph fastball right?)

Add in a couple of sleeper/lottery pick prospects and it's a pretty strong return.

They say, he touched 105.

Heyman:

Trea Turner was deal breaker for nats, understandably. Offered giolito, robles and more for Sale. So very good offer.

Man....that offer seems as good - if not better than what Boston gave up. I assume Boston had to pay Moncada's salary to equalize the offer.

Giolito is overrated and Moncada is (much more?) more valuable than Robles, I can totally understand why the White Sox would go for this deal rather than the Nats' proposal which did not include Turner, although we also don't know how much more talent they did add.

Giolitto was a top 5 prospect last year and most figure Robles is now top 15. I know prospect lists are flawed, but dats good. Moncada's probably Top 3.

This. It wouldn't even be outrageous to assume that Kopech becomes a better prospect than Giolito.

Giolito's prospect status is down and Moncada is a better version of Robles. Kopech isn't far off from being the best pitching prospect in baseball himself.

Moncada is touted by a lot of prospect guys as a generational talent, and Giolito has seen his stock drop as metafour suggested, while Kopech and his elite fastball has only gone up. I honestly think the Red Sox's top 2 here are much more valuable and have higher upside than the Nats' top 2.

It feels like Moncada is being under valued here, perhaps his struggles in his quick call up took some prospect shine off??

I'm glad we got Shatkins and not dombrowski, this trade is a huge gamble on pitcher health, could easily back fire massively for the Sox....or they run away with East and we fight for wild card, which is how I felt it was before this trade. Sucks we play them 18 times though while others only face them 6-9.

I wonder how this board would have reacted if Dombrowski was our president. He's AA on steroids.

Kopech is like Syndergaard when we traded him: a prospect who was obviously right on the cusp of blowing up, but who's actual "prospect ranking" hadn't quite synced up with the talent/upside. Given Giolito's drop in velocity and overall stuff, it isn't absurd at all to see Kopech end up as the better prospect.

I think he'd get torn to pieces for this trade.

AA on steroids is exactly right!

Jim Callis tweet (yeah I don't know how to post tweets:(

The @RedSox gave up four of their six best prospects. Moncada arguably best prospect in game, Kopech not far off from best mound prospect.

That's a good way of describing Dombrowski. Or as Bob McCown likes to pronounce it, 'Dubbroski'

Anyway, the White Sox are clearly doing a rebuild. Is is more likely now they trade Eaton?

Boston shouldn't scare anyone. This is a team that implodes. They are in constant turmoil. They could field a team of five tool all stars and finish 30 games back.Let Boston be Boston and watch them swim in s***.

Is that you, Grant?

If the WS trade Quintana/Frazier and get other big packages, they will have a nice rebuild on the way.

It's Kenny Williams, I wouldnt get your hopes up

The sox aren't done yet but for now...they haven't / can't replace Ortiz which is huge. They added Sale who is an ace ( waiting for his arm to explode the past few years ) but starters Porcello and Wright will regress. I like their move getting Thornburg but they have an issue at 3B...Holt / Pablo.

They have holes just as we do. Lets see what happens
