Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It's very much not like that at all. Donaldson is worth a lot more than Sale on a performance basis. And Sale is also a pitcher with wonky mechanics, so that's an even bigger advantage for Donaldson.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Sandoval as the full time DH and Turner at 3rd Or Trade Sandovol eating half his remaining salary of about 54.8 mill and pay the 5 mill payout seems like the more Boston big payroll thing to do. Some other team gets a DH for about or less then 10 mill a year! Then they turn around and sign Turner and EE and we all sit back and go, well wtf!
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 And Sale is also a pitcher with wonky mechanics, so that's an even bigger advantage for Donaldson. I have been waiting forever for his arm to explode. It looks nasty
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 And Sale is also a pitcher with wonky mechanics, so that's an even bigger advantage for Donaldson. s***, I don't even think this is a bad deal for the White Sox. The real problem is that Dumnbroski had too much prospect capital to spend in the first place.
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Ah homerism. Sure they may not be better than the Sox now, but I think Price will drive off a cliff and Sale will get into a life-changing bar fight so therefore the Blue Jays are better!!! It does seem an abnormally high amount of athletes have been stabbed/injured in after-bar altercations in Boston.....
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Uhm, they also gave up Kopech who is 20 years old, just dominated the AFL (ranked #2 prospect by BA behind only Gleybar Torres), and hits 100mph with his fastball. On top of two other prospects. Umm he did also Papelbon his hand at the beginning of the season, this past year.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Umm he did also Papelbon his hand at the beginning of the season, this past year. Pretty dumb thing to do. One of the top pitching prospects on the planet and he decides to go punch people and break his hand. He has thrown 105mph too.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It does seem an abnormally high amount of athletes have been stabbed/injured in after-bar altercations in Boston..... Yes, I've been so blind. Sale's Steamer for 2017 should just say "did not play - dead"
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I think it's a good deal for both sides... Red Sox not done yet? Holt/Panda at 3rd? Looks like they have some depth pitching to be moved...Unless they just move to BP which I doubt
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Nice deal for both sides, the Bosox looking good in December... it's too bad we have to actually play the season out. Sure. Anything can happen. But the BoSox are really putting themselves in a position to excel. Let's see what the Jays roster looks like in April.

Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 If we have to face Sale, Porcello and Price in a 3 game series during the regular season chances are it will be a 3 game sweep. That Sucks! Easy was to loose ground quick.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 You are going to have to talk a lot of posters off the ledge for a long time over all this Spank Seriously though, while anything can happen in the playoffs you have to get there first. And over 162, adding Sale to their rotation is not something I'm happy about. I'm quite aware they've improved immensely, likely East Champs and all that, but we've seen so many teams win off-seasons to come up short.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm quite aware they've improved immensely, likely East Champs and all that, but we've seen so many teams win off-seasons to come up short. The Red Sox adding Chris Sale is not the same as the Padres winning the 2014 offseason or the Jays winning the 2012 offseason. They have a legitimately good team, and will be contenders certainly.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Sandoval as the full time DH and Turner at 3rd Nah - they'll probably go Turner at 3rd with EE & Hanley rotating at first.

Nafro Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm quite aware they've improved immensely, likely East Champs and all that, but we've seen so many teams win off-seasons to come up short. Hmmm can't think of the last team that happened to.........
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm quite aware they've improved immensely, likely East Champs and all that, but we've seen so many teams win off-seasons to come up short. Those are usually teams that had awful seasons the previous season...go big in the offseason, then the expectations are sky high. The Red Sox are starting as AL East champs and now they've added serious talent to that.

Nafro Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Yes, I've been so blind. Sale's Steamer for 2017 should just say "did not play - dead" I think he's safe since he doesn't play in NBA. It appears Boston is more of a danger to basketball player's.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Heyman: Trea Turner was deal breaker for nats, understandably. Offered giolito, robles and more for Sale. So very good offer.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Well, they bought Moncada. Anyone could have had him really, all it cost was $. The Sox, Yankees, etc are always in a prospect rich position because they have ownership that spends heavily. And here we are salivating over Steve Pearce. That is some ass backwards logic. They have good draft picks because they spend heavily? I think it's because they scout and draft well...
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 If we have to face Sale, Porcello and Price in a 3 game series during the regular season chances are it will be a 3 game sweep. That Sucks! Easy was to loose ground quick. Porky does not repeat.

Dodgers are an example, and tons of other teams that came up short throughout history is all I'm saying, guizze! K... Thanks! They picked up Thornburg too? Nice.

The real problem is that Dumnbroski had too much prospect capital to spend in the first place. Neither do I, Moncada is seen by most evaluators as an elite talent, and IIRC Kopech has fantastic stuff (he's the one with the 100 mph fastball right?) Add in a couple of sleeper/lottery pick prospects and it's a pretty strong return.
