BTS Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Since when is David Price a headcase? There should be a forum function that auto-bans someone every time they use the word 'headcase'. Guessing at the effect that someone's personality will have on their performance based on the odd news story is probably the dumbest type of post you see on sports forums.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Have you seen him in the playoffs? The f*** does that have to do with being a head case? Guy is one of the nicest guys in Baseball.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 So Boston is paying all of Moncada's salary. That pretty much means they are paying Sale 23 million per year + the prospects.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 A player is really only worth what a team is willing to pay him so it's kind of a mute point. Regardless it was just a silly tweet that looked kind of foolish on the surface when you consider $33.33MM would be the highest paid player in the majors, or at the very least exactly in line with contracts like Kershaw/Price, etc. It's moot point.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It's moot point. He doesn't give a f*** I've been told.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I have nothing against Chris Sale. Last time Boston got this much hype, they came in last place, so we'll see what happens. Last time Boston got this much hype was the 2015-16 offseason when they landed Price and then won the division.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Steven Wright and one of Pomeranz/Rodriguez are not an acceptable 4/5 combo to you? Back of the pen looks like Osuna/Grilli/Biagini vs. Kimbrel/Thornburg/Barnes. If anything, that's advantage Boston. I disagree about back of the pen. With Osuna being only 21 his upside and previous production probably puts him ahead of Kimbrel imo. The other 2 will be a wash I think. As for Wright he is going to be a mixed bag like Dickey I believe. Last year he was great until the last month or 2 where he imploded if I remember correctly. I assume they would go with Rodriguez at #5 which is ok...but our #5 whoever you consider it to be should be better. Edit: I am not saying Boston will be bad...in fact their pitching will be really good. I just think we will be better.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 He doesn't give a f*** I've been told. Not trying to be a dick, it's a common mistake. Personally I would rather be corrected than keep using the wrong word over and over for various audiences, perhaps even professionally.

Even with the back-end rotation quirks, how does that still make the Jay rotation of Aaron 'let's see you do it again' Sanchez, Marcus sinkerball Stroman, Marco slipped disc Estrada, JA Happ, and Francisco complete wild card Liriano better? I mean I like the Jays rotation more than any other in recent memory, but over Price, Sale, Porcello, even with some uncertainty behind them? No way man.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I think the first three are inarguable: Sale > Sanchez Price > Stroman Porcello > Happ I'd almost certainly take Wright over Liriano. Edge to Estrada over Pomeranz/Rodriguez to me, but IF Pomeranz is healthy, even that is close.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Gotta say, I'm surprised. I thought it would take at least 2 of Boston's top guys to land Sale. Thought it would be something like Bradley + Moncada +, or at least Benintendi + Moncada. Great trade for the Sox. (Redsox)
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 mute point lol. Gov's from Barrie - let's give him a break guys.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Red Sox taking on Moncada's entire contract.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Gov's from Barrie - let's give him a break guys. Barrie really isn't that bad. It's just different.

HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 This really sucks! A 1 - 2 punch of Sale & Price with that offense, even if they'll likely be regression is downright scary. Our pitching staff has a higher probability to regress imo. The regression I was referring to was the Red Sox offense (which will still be very good). I should have made that clearer, my bad.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 The regression I was referring to was the Red Sox offense (which will still be very good). I should made that clearer, my bad. We still dont know who else they will sign to DH. Its quite possible they go all in and get EE, the timing is perfect.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Dang it, Remember when we were all sooo excited that we signed Steave Pearce! Seems like only yesterday, Good Times!!!
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 The $/WAR model does not work perfectly in free agency because there are market restrictions and realities that take precedent. Trout may be "worth" $75 million a year, but that doesn't mean that anyone would pay him anywhere near that on the open market even if he magically became a free agent tomorrow. The max he'd get is something like ~$40 million a year. Its a fun thing to look at, but it doesn't work in actual real life. Erik Kratz had a s***** agent
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Looking forward to seeing Sandoval everyday at 3B. Not after they sign Justin Turner.
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 There's nothing wrong with correcting grammar per say, but it's kind of enjoyable when it bothers Grant.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Am I missing something? I get that Its Chris Sale but 100 mill for 3 years.. how is he worth "way more"? John Heyman probably has an iq in the 60s. Just keep that in mind whenever you read him.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Not after they sign Justin Turner. Sandoval as the full time DH and Turner at 3rd
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 That seems like a cheap price to pay for Sale. I get it that Moncada is highly regarded but Sale is out of this world. It's almost like trading Moncada for Donaldson, we would never do that. It's very much not like that at all. Donaldson is worth a lot more than Sale on a performance basis.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Their #4 and #5 starters are not good imo....and their bullpen is questionable. We are solid #1-5 with upside to be even better. Back end of our pen is great as well. We just need to full out the rest of our pen. Red Sox might see a slide in Price and Porcello so...yes overall I think we will be better. Ah homerism. Sure they may not be better than the Sox now, but I think Price will drive off a cliff and Sale will get into a life-changing bar fight so therefore the Blue Jays are better!!!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Nice deal for both sides, the Bosox looking good in December... it's too bad we have to actually play the season out.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Welp. At least there are the wild card spots.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Nice deal for both sides, the Bosox looking good in December... it's too bad we have to actually play the season out. You are going to have to talk a lot of posters off the ledge for a long time over all this Spank Seriously though, while anything can happen in the playoffs you have to get there first. And over 162, adding Sale to their rotation is not something I'm happy about.

Uhm, they also gave up Kopech who is 20 years old, just dominated the AFL (ranked #2 prospect by BA behind only Gleybar Torres), and hits 100mph with his fastball. On top of two other prospects.
