That's just how it is... So you can't just load up on the most expensive talent cause the funds just aren't there. It's just how it is. Even the teams with seemingly unlimited payrolls can't get everything done they want. Look at the Dodgers, you end up making trades, eating salaries and have injuries where you are paying a ton for guys not even on the team or contributing.

Why do you think the funds aren't there? The Jays are a unique team in that their market is a country and they are owned by the company that exclusively broadcasts the games. Also think about the money they are saving on the starting rotation? They got the league-leading ERA dirt cheap. Apply that savings to snagging a marquee FA.
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Bautista wants multi year and 20m/per not happening. He's worth 3 for 50m. He had an off year due to injuries. He'll bounce back in a big way.

They will likely crank it up if they know what's good for them and the franchise. Why risk regressing back to mediocrity when you have another shot at this window, all because your too cheap to put another $30 million on the payroll? The franchise value has jumped $200 mill. Rogers operating revenue for the 2nd quarter 2016 was $3455 million. The Blue Jays are a massive draw across this whole country. Attendance, TV ratings and merchandise sales are through the roof. I have a ton of confidence that with a $170 mil payroll we will be back in the playoffs next season.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I don't have the same confidence that you do that Rogers will ante up. Hope you're right... But I don't see it... At least not an amount that's substantial. I can see maybe going up $5m.

You can also save some of it for mid season trades Edited November 10, 2016 by G-Snarls

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Morales would be a terrible fit.
Gary Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Morales would be a terrible fit. How so? He replaces EE seamlessly.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 How so? He replaces EE seamlessly. He is not good and is a DH only. Like a better version of Justin Smoak who will cost more.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Morales would be a terrible fit. I disagree
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Morales would be a terrible fit. He's actually a good fit IMO. He's a solid hitter who is pretty balanced against both sides of the plate. He's just completely uninspiring because he can't play a position and he's old. If he came for dirt cheap I wouldn't hate it if it allowed to spend more money elsewhere.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The random guy who broke the Stanton contract is tweeting that we have signed Morales to a 3 year deal, 33 mil
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Keep in mind that Toronto needs a DH and a 1B. Morales doesn't preclude Edwin.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 if Morales stays as the DH, then I'm fine
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 if Morales stays as the DH, then I'm fine Likewise. I don't understand the hate. I've always liked him.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 If it happens, we know who Gibby will have a man crush on next year.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Ugh don't like that. Why not? Doesn't impact a potential signing on Edwin, and adds as a cushion if Edwin's contract demands are stupid.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Can morales play first base? Yeah he can. The Royals just have Hosmer there. Morales actually played some OF this past season which I don't remember.
