He's generally considered a major liability in the field, but Atkins did raise the possibility of using him at first base and perhaps even the outfield" wat Morales in the outfield, Bruce, Bautista as a legit outfielder, ... I'm pretty sure at this point the FO doesn't value defense in the outfield (at least at the corners).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 That's the way it used to be but not anymore. An algorithm calculates it based on a number of variables, probably distance, time in air, velo, launch angle etc. Except that they have exact MPH batted ball rates coming off of his bat, all of which confirm Morales' ~41.1% hard hit rate or whatever that "guy" typed into his computer. Cool! I guess I stopped paying attention to BIS stuff when Statcast came out. For the record I'm a proponent of Morales, Metafour. I don't know why his GB MPH matters, but as I've posted recently, he was in the 92nd percentile of batted ball distance (which is still one of the problem with these stats as guys who hit squibblers sometimes can see that fall disproportionately although I think they might've fixed that?). He also hit for a higher percentage of barrelled balls than Edwin and JD!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I am really not a fan of locking into a DH only for 3 years when you know guys like Tulo, Donaldson and Travis are going to need days off. Whatever I guess but this signing is just so far from sexy. It's like banging a 6. Morales can play 1st guys...Maybe not for 162 games, but enough to give JD and Tulo a break now and then and during interleague play
