Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Seems like Shapiro likes to strike early in FA. Happ was one of the first signing's last year too wasn't he?
Mkdaman1818 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Bye bye EE... hope we trade for votto to fill the 1B void

Governator Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The fact that we're attracting free agents at all is kind of cool.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Looks like they at least got 2 wins worse by replacing EE with Morales. Shatkins better have something else up their sleeve. What if he replaces Smoak?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 MLBTr comparing contract to Billy Butler....Great.
agrushcow Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't really get people's issues with this signing.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 What if he replaces Smoak? I doubt they are spending 11 million a year on a Smoak replacement.
JG34 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't really get people's issues with this signing. Because it's not EE. I have no issues with this signing, myself.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't really get people's issues with this signing. Because it means the parrot is gone.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Which is why I don't really like it. 2/22 seems reasonable, but the 3rd year is essentially wasted money. Nah. You can use him 2 years and then DFA him the 3rd year.... It's not Ryan Howard deal
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 He's a switch hitter and moving to a ballpark like Toronto can definitely improve his numbers. Likely just to stick as the DH hopefully. 11M/3 years is a lot better than spending $25 M on EE for 5 years.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Redditors love the deal by the way.......anyone here sure they want to like this?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 MLBTr comparing contract to Billy Butler....Great. Well its the same money. But they aren't the same player. Billy Butler never had that kind of power.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't really get people's issues with this signing. Why? Add some analysis if you can.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I wonder.... Jays sign Cuban prospect! Jays sign Kendrys Morales's who is Cuban! Jays would love to get younger and replace either Bautista or EE's power? Guess what other free agent outfielder is on the market and Cuban! Jays sign Cespedes for 5 years 125 million. Kendrys' acts as interpreter and mentor! Boom!!!

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 This is nice. Fly ball hitter probably wasn't accounted for as much as it should've been in his wRC+ playing at Kauf
skirbs11 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Can Steve Pearce play everyday 1st base? Maybe look to trade Smoak, Sign Pearce? Might make the Morales signing make more sense.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 If we could trade Smoak that would be wonderful. But don't understand why anyone would want him. If a free agent he might not have even received a major league contract. At most it would have been 2.5-3M and incentive based.

Governator Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Clearly he's a slap hitter at SkyDome then. Should we cut his home run projections in half? We didn't sign Pujols, we signed Ichiro!!

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Yeah, I think I'm on board too depending on what else goes down. Morales at 3/33 + a pick is more appealing to me than Edwin at 5/100 or whatever and no pick . There's also the chance that Rowdy Tellez could hit his way into the MLB to become our new 1B by the ASB.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I'm really not a fan of this move.
