Governator Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Is it simply speculation what payroll is increasing to? I keep seeing 160.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 One thing is becoming evident. Unlike with AA - there seems to be a lot more behind the "rumours" you hear with Shatkins in charge...Is Reddick next? He will be, yup
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Did you guys hear, we signed Morales for 3 years.

Mittens87 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Any chance Bautista doesn't get his 3/60 and just takes the qualifying offer?
UWHabs Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Pretty much confirmed as we're out on EE. So hopefully Shatkins has more up their sleeves to help the team, since losing Eddie is a big blow to the lineup.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I think so too. I don't think they'll want to commit to using one of Morales and Edwin at 1B every day for the next three years. I expect a full-time 1B to be acquired now, for cheaper than Edwin. Probably also means Beltran and Holliday are out, as they're more DH types. I agree and I think I support this. I hate the idea of signing expensive, aging players. Collect draft picks from EE and Jose, sign middling FA's to reasonable contracts and sign/trade for younger, core talent - building from within.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The only thing I will agree on is that him coming over to the AL East may have some increase on numbers. I wonder if we can look at his numbers in the AL East ball parks.

Yeah, I think I'm on board too depending on what else goes down. Morales at 3/33 + a pick is more appealing to me than Edwin at 5/100 or whatever and no pick .
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Kaufmann Field suppresses home runs a lot. It's perennially near the bottom. RC is usually up toward the top. Morales can probably expect about 10% more home runs or so based upon park factor alone? (I'm just eyeballing park factors don't take it to the bank.)
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't think there's much incentive to take the QO for Jose. If he's truly hit the down track, he'll just damage any future chance at longer term deals by taking a 1-year QO. He's probably just looking to cash in the biggest compromise between length and dollar amount now.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I don't think I like this signing. Can anyone talk me in to it? Or are well pretty much meh on it?

If he signs the QO he's trying to rebuild value as an aging player and there's so much risk involved in that for him, I think it's more likely to backfire than pan out.

I like the idea of having 3 first round picks in June as long it looks like the team has a chance to be competitive again. Real chance for them to build up that farm system without rebuilding.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 3rd year on the deal is what likely pushed him to sign here. I`m sure he got a bunch of 1 and 2 year offers.

I'm even keel on it. It's going to have to be looked at as a piece of the entire body of work this offseason. Most non-blockbuster moves should be, as long as we're not looking at out of this world dollars and years.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Bautista still had the worst year of his career full of injuries and still WRC 122 and OBP over .360 that is better than Morales entire career. Only an idiot would say Morales is better than Bautista. For the $$$ savings I'll take Morales
UWHabs Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 3rd year on the deal is what likely pushed him to sign here. I`m sure he got a bunch of 1 and 2 year offers. Which is why I don't really like it. 2/22 seems reasonable, but the 3rd year is essentially wasted money.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 For the $$$ savings I'll take Morales Thats fair if you factor in the dollars and the number of years you are probably taking less risk Even if Morales stinks it up for a year, somebody would take him on.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Looks like they at least got 2 wins worse by replacing EE with Morales. Shatkins better have something else up their sleeve.
