P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Uggghhh... Why. I can't believe I traded for this f***ing guy in BBDL.

Shout to my family @us_tla for always having my back. Always stay true to my day ones! Marcus Stroman @MStrooo6 38m38 minutes ago Shout to the @BlueJays for being extremely professional throughout the entire process as well! Marcus Stroman @MStrooo6 36m36 minutes ago Now...time to get back to work and deliver the fans of TORONTO the World Series they deserve. @BlueJays #HDMH Those were nice to read. My concerns seem pretty unfair in hindsight.

I remember hearing Sean Casey talk about the arb process and how personal it can get. The Reds were telling the aribitrators how he's slow, his defense is slipping, he's got no power for a 1B, etc. It was funny the way he described it.

george09 Verified Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Gibby on PTS said he expects Smoak to be the opening day and regular 1B for the Jays next year. Sign Alvarez and dump smoak.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I don't mind if the Jays take it slow with Pearce in April since he's coming back from injury, but dammit he better be starting everyday at some point.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Gibby on PTS said he expects Smoak to be the opening day and regular 1B for the Jays next year. Sign Alvarez and dump smoak. Take it with a grain of salt. Line-ups will be prominent by Mid-May.

Sign Alvarez and dump smoak. I knew this would happen. Here's to hoping that Pearce balls out from the get-go and wins the job outright. Giving AB's to a zero like Smoak when the Chris Carter's of the world were signing for 3 million this offseason is frustrating.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I'm just hoping Pearce out plays Smoak badly in spring training and makes Gibby take notice
Ray Verified Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 f***ing eh. Just platoon Pompey with Upton and keep Pearce at 1B. I don't want Smoak near the lineup on a regular basis.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Biagini to starter Negotiating with Latos and EJax Hmmmm Sure seems like they MIGHT be entertaining trading one of the current starting 5 for an upgrade elsewhere They're not signing Latos or Jackson to pitch out of the BP as a swing man
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 is Liriano slated for the BP or starting rotation? I wouldn't mind shipping Happ off
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 is Liriano slated for the BP or starting rotation? I wouldn't mind shipping Happ off can't tell if serious.... I'm all for selling high on Happ too.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 is Liriano slated for the BP or starting rotation? I wouldn't mind shipping Happ off Liriano is starter for sure
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Happ is very tradeable 2 years left at a reasonable 13M per season
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Trading one of our SP is inconceivable. We simply don't have the depth to do it.

If other teams viewed them as starters they would have signed by now.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 If we had signed someone like Ross in the offseason, then trading a starter could have made sense. To trade one now would not be wise.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Happ is very tradeable 2 years left at a reasonable 13M per season It does make sense in terms of trade value, he may never be worth more than he is right now - and likely would bring back a nice bat. If Liriano shows similar form to his time here last year, we still have a solid top four and I think we're OK to move Happ, but the idea does scare me for sure.

Yeah I'm scared to trade him too Estrada worries me a little...
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Yeah I'm scared to trade him too Estrada worries me a little... Yeah those back issues are definitely a worry, he seems to be able to pitch through it but how long can he do that effectively? Happ is so much easier to bank on in my opinion.

The average MLB team uses ten starting pitchers in a season and needs roughly 32 starts out of guys not in their opening day five. There's a 65% chance that the average MLB team will have two injured starting pitchers at the same time during a season. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/so-how-many-starters-does-a-team-need-then/
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 You can't really be certain of that. If other teams viewed them as starters they would have signed by now. Agreed. Nearly every other team has less talent in their rotations. Latos' ceiling at this point appears to be SP7/8 for the Blue Jays and this means good MiLB depth. For other teams, Latos' upside could mean a a lot more utility, even a decent starter in MLB for a few starts. There's way more utility there for those teams and they didn't even bother.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 If Happ is moved it will likely be for the blue chip prospects Shatkins is on record as saying they want to acquire more of.
