ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Billy Hams available and we're not in? We're dumb. I wish we were. Wouldnt cost money and we could use that money elsewhere. Our outfield D would be awesome.

bzapple Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 It should be zero interest from the Jays perspective. I don't know why the Mets think teams should be interested in Bruce. He's been roughly replacement level over the last three years, and turning 30 next season. I could see them maybe getting a C prospect in January from team that missed on the better players available.
polar bear Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just wondering where Liriano is going to fit in next season ?

crmr Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just wondering where Liriano is going to fit in next season ? Good idea to start discussing the rotation. Should be a lock in the rotation, hopefully he can keep his walk rate down Edit: Why is this thread moved? Would be nice for a place to have a clear discussion
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just wondering where Liriano is going to fit in next season ? Unless something drastic changes he's our 5th starter.
bzapple Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Oh Damn, so the Jays then! Lol The Jays have already signed Morales and Pearce, and Pompey would be a better option than Bruce for the outfield.
bzapple Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Edit: Why is this thread moved? Would be nice for a place to have a clear discussion Agreed. Not everything needs to amalgamated into one of the three megathreads. Nothing wrong with a smaller, more pointed discussion.
polar bear Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Unless something drastic changes he's our 5th starter. Sounds good to me,got a feeling our rotation will excell this coming season.

True about Pompey, might be! But he said who missed out on better players. We settled for Morales and Pearce!
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Where does Liriano fit is a question with 1 (maybe 2) answers so the purpose of moving threads like those is to informally let people know we have places for those types of questions. Feel free to start a 2017 Rotation Thread with a full discussion if you wish, that's not a bad idea.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just trying to read through the lines but it seems like the Jays want Fowler and that Bautista could be the fallback plan.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Sounds about right. If money is equal, he'll go elsewhere and stay in CF. Jays are going to have to bump their offer up.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Exactly what I think too Unless there is some trade to be had they really, really need one of the two of them.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just trying to read through the lines but it seems like the Jays want Fowler and that Bautista could be the fallback plan. Yep. Only reason to circle back to Bautista is lack of other options. If Fowler goes to the Cardinals, then Bats and his bruised ego are probably staying in Toronto.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 C'mon boys - 4 years $70. Get it done.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Would 5 for 80 be so bad? Not much worse than 4 for 70. The AAV is nice, 15 mil a year is only 1.7 WAR necessary for it to be a wash. Backend the deal a little bit and let inflation do it's work.

Backend the deal a little bit and let inflation do it's work. That would be gross overpay. If we lose Fowler I think they go the trade route. That doesn't automatically mean Bautista. Shapiro basically said this yesterday.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just f***ing get him already. Shatkins is obsessed with mid-market team value contracts. It's okay to slightly overpay here and there.
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just trying to read through the lines but it seems like the Jays want Fowler and that Bautista could be the fallback plan. I think that's a pretty ideal strategy, however I would have preferred Bautista over Morales to replace Edwin to be honest. A solid DH bat that can be put in to the OF or 1B in a pinch. Even though he's a player in decline he still comes with the versatility by comparison and his OBP is still top of the line worthy. I guess by waiting him out, his value has plummeted to an all-time low and the Jays have the upper hand now in any negotiations but he seemed like a great option for DH and backup outfielder. I'm less of a fan if he's plugged in as the starting RF, borderline gag worthy.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Fowler wants 5/80, I think i'd be comfortable with that. He'll be 35 by the end of the deal... He's always been a great OBP guy and its not like he'll forget how to take a walk. Defense won't be any worse than Bautista's by the end of the contract. He's a perfect fit for this team right now, and we'll need a guy with his skillset if we want to seriously compete against Boston/New York
