Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I'd rather sign Pedro Alvarez than trade for Mitch Moreland (or roster Smoak). At least he hits RHP....something Moreland's only done once in his career (2015). Edit: I guess Alvarez isn't really a great option to play 1st. Alarming - seeing as he used to play 3rd (typically it's the throws that push you from 3rd to 1st).
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Pearce makes a tremendous amount of sense. But that's already been mentioned a thousand times on this board. Its nice waking up to rumour that doesn't make you cringe. Moreland makes zero sense. This was my initial thought but if we can sign both Pearce and Moreland it would clear things up a bit. Moreland can't hit LHP to save his life but is solid against RHP and Pearce can play 1st against LHP and play LF when not playing first. Sorry i know thats a mess of thought. Signing Pearce would make things a lot easier position wise as he could play both 1st and LF. If you can follow my ramblings god bless you.

Ya Alvarez is a butcher with any kind of glove on DH for the rest of his career And i think i would put Moreland ahead of Smoak considering i bet he will make less.

Well unless they plan to dump Smoak somewhere still don't see where Moreland will fit. Smoak is pretty useless as is. Even more useless taking a roster spot with no at-bats or defensive versatility.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 thank God I'm not a GM lets hope his forearm heals quick
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 2 years $12.5M!!!! we got him!!! http://www.tsn.ca/report-blue-jays-sign-pearce-to-two-year-deal-1.623762 I can FAP now.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Do you think if they sign Pearce he will me Primarily a 1st baseman Career UZR/150 is +1.2 in the OF and +8.8 at 1B. I think he'll play basically every day and rotate between the two spots. Maybe if they do sign Moreland Pearce will play LF against RHP.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Now that's some Traction!!! Lol Now stop the Moreland talk and package Upton/Smoak to somebody anybody for anything or Free and it's a Grrreat Day!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I was going to suggest signing Fowler and trading for Jarrod Dyson...win WS. Just realised Dyson is already 32 - going on 33 next year. WOW!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Fowler, Dyson, and Pearce would be a sweet off-season. Step one with Pearce. Two more to go.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Any chance Edwin takes a 1 year deal to get away from the lost draft pick attached to him?

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Any chance Edwin takes a 1 year deal to get away from the lost draft pick attached to him? It's not impossible but it doesn't really seem wise, this may be his best ever chance to cash in.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 It's not impossible but it doesn't really seem wise, this may be his best ever chance to cash in. Just seems like he isn't even going to get the 4/80 we had offered and the Rockies might be his best option. I can't see him playing 1B for 4 years.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 It's not impossible but it doesn't really seem wise, this may be his best ever chance to cash in. It will be interesting to see how far off from the 4/$80 million he ends up signing for (assuming that was a legit offer).
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Author Posted December 5, 2016 Really just a backup catcher and an everyday OF required now for the lineup: C - Martin 1B - Pearce 2B - Travis 3B - Donaldson SS - Tulowitzki CF - Pillar LF - Upton/Carrera RF - DH - Morales 1B - Smoak LF - Upton/Carrera 2B/SS/3B - Barney C - Would also be nice to acquire a better platoon partner for Upton (which would move Carrera to the 4th OF spot and be the end of Smoak on the roster), but really things are manageable with just an everyday OF and backup C added.

RHP - Smoak/Morales 1B, Pearce/Carerra LF LHP - Pearce 1B, Upton LF
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Author Posted December 5, 2016 Dear Shatkins - please don't settle for manageable. I kind of expect them to. It seems like the team always comes 1-2 pieces short of buying everything on the fans' offseason shopping list. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Shatkins throws Upton/Carrera/Pompey at LF and crosses their fingers.
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I wonder how many games we can count on Steve Pearce
