Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 That's not the order RIGHT? Yes it is. Gibby only giving one start to Sanchez when he could have given him 2 on normal rest and everything. What a dipshit.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Yes it is. Gibby only giving one start to Sanchez when he could have given him 2 on normal rest and everything. What a dipshit. It's probably to try and limit his innings...You know the same s*** they've been talking about all year...
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 The Sanchez thing might be coming from up top. Gibbons might not have had a choice there. If that's the case, this makes sense while having Liriano available in the pen for whenever he's needed, and I'm sure he will be needed a couple of times in this series at least.
BigBulgeBlueBird Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I have faith in all our starters. Pitching Sanchez at RC makes more sense than Estrada at RC imo, and Estrada was CLUTCH for us in the playoffs last year. So no worries from me.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 It's probably to try and limit his innings...You know the same s*** they've been talking about all year... His innings will be "limited" if we don't get through the 5 game series. Then again I thought they should have started Liriano yesterday and it worked out, so I'm going to try to chill and let this FO group do what they do without having anymore brain aneurisms.

Amen to that. I have faith in all of our guys.

Best course of action IMO. Its not like any of these decisions are Showalter/Britton bad.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Should of flip flopped Estrada and happ though no? I mean objectively if we can win one game in Texas it's looking very good for them
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I'm confident in all our starters. But once again this was not the correct decesion. Hopefully it works out anyway. Estrada is probably the starter I would have least liked to see start game 1 and now he's likely to pitch game 1 and 5.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 There's such a thing as too much rest, and Happ or Estrada would already be starting on 5 days rest to make these starts, do you really want to push their starts back to 6 and 7 days rest respectively instead? They may not be effective that way.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Estrada appears to be the one most effected by to much rest. He will be on 5 days rest with an afternoon game in steaming hot Texas with the Jet Stream in full effect. On paper this looks like a disaster. You wanted a ground ball pitcher in this game.

If you assume that the powers that be wouldn't allow Sanchez to start more than one game, I don't really know what else you could've done except to flip Happ and Estrada. I'm pretty indifferent either way really. Maybe put Liriano in there, but he might be more valuable in the pen right now.

I can't remember where I heard it(I think mlb network radio) but it was said that they do not want Sanchez going much past 200 innings including the playoffs. Pretty much means he's good for about 3 more starts at 4-5 innings per start, or 1 start per remaining round at best, and he'll be on a short leash in any case. That would put him around 204-207 innings after only 92.1 last year.

Seems pretty cringy not to give one of your best starters 2 starts. And potentially your 4th starter 2 starts. I guess they could go Happ Game 5. But I would have liked to have seen Sanchez start 2 games.

Pretty much means he's good for about 3 more starts at 5 innings per start, or 1 start per remaining round at best I remember hearing the same thing, but these things can easily go out the window if there is a realistic shot at the World Series. Quite frankly, I think their plan for Sanchez clearly went out the window a long time ago. They backtracked on the bullpen thing almost immediately after having so much conviction about it for almost the entire season to that point. That doesn't mean they'll be reckless, they are clearly trying to watch out for him to an extent here, but I think it's clear they have wavered from their earlier and much stronger stance.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Once again our starters are good and Estrada finds a way if that happens and we do advance to the ALCS we are pretty well set up using basically our full rotation in the DS.

I doubt we see him more than 1 start per series even getting to world series. He'll be game 3 in the DS then game 4 in each of the following 2 assuming they make it that far. I strongly suspect Liriano will be his handcuff
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I can see him pitching games 1&7, or even 2&7 in a series. I really don't think there is a strict innings limit anymore, just rest in between starts is what they will value now. If he gets 6 days, I think they are good to go. If there were really being that cautious with him, why even announce him as a game 3 starter? If you are only going to pitch him 1 game, why not wait and see how things shake down in the first 2? What if you can beat them in 3 or 4 games without him? You could've avoided using him in this series completely.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I'm comfortable with these four guys in any order. Man, the Jays rotation this year has been f***ing amazing. A miracle.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 So in this order the days of rest are... Estrada - 5 days rest Happ - 5 days rest Sanchez - 6 days rest Stroman - 5 days rest
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 It goes Sanchez > Estrada > Happ > Stroman I get wanting Sanchez but there's no reason to complain about Estrada over anyone else.
vic city Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 There's no way Sanchez is on an innings limit still. We're talking about a difference of what, 20 innings? You do whatever it takes at this point, even if there is a (slight) chance it could result in an injury to Sanchez. It's like poker. You don't fold your full house because the other guy could have 4 of a kind. All in baby!
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 It goes Sanchez > Estrada > Happ > Stroman Does it? I think it actually goes: Sanchez > Stroman > Estrada >> Happ With the caveat that they are all really close.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Does it? I think it actually goes: Sanchez > Stroman > Estrada >> Happ With the caveat that they are all really close. Estrada has been more effective deeper into games than anyone not named Sanchez.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Estrada has been more effective deeper into games than anyone not named Sanchez. Sure but all we care about is how good they will be in the future. Happ has been extremely effective all year and I have no hesitation in projecting him to be worse than the other three next year.

Even Liriano, with the caveat that if he's off early you get him out quick. The scary thing is, next year our SP could be even better than this year.
