Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Oh I know that's why Shatkins needs to read Gibby the riot act to make sure he takes Stroman out after twice through the lineup. If Gibby does his standard "let him pitch util he fails" ******** it will be a very unwise decision on both his part and the FO for not making it more clear. It's unfair to infer that Gibby doesn't know how to manage a WC game based on his regular season managing style. It was probably a prudent decision to go with his starters considering our 'pen was a horrific 23-32 with 22 blown saves.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It's a team decision, regardless. Perhaps. I'd hope that our front office doesn't interfere too much with in-game decisions though. That's a recipe for problems.

Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Greetings all. This game scares the hell out of me, as it should. No one should be confident going into a single elimination game in baseball. If you're feeling good, you don't know the game. I'd go with the board consensus and Liriano. The O's are noticeably worse against left handed pitching, so why play to their strength and start Stroman? I don't like it and all we can do is hope that it works out. I haven't posted since we lost in Game 6 last year. This team doesn't seem as good as the one last year, which felt like it was the best one in baseball after the regular season. With that being said, the starting pitching is better and this group has been there before, so who the hell knows. I think if we get through the Orioles, we'll have just as good a shot as anyone to make it to the World Series. You don't get post season games every year, as this fan base should know, better than almost anyone. 1994 to 2014 sucked a prodigious amount of ass, so let's enjoy this one tonight. Let's f*** these Orioles up and keep the dream alive. LET'S f*** THESE ORIOLES UP!!!! STRO SHOW BABY, STRO SHOW!!!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It's a team decision, regardless. It really isn't thats why Atkins singled out Gibbons by saying "Ultimately Gibbons" Ultimately = at the most basic level. "ultimately he has only himself to blame" Read between the lines ffs
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I can't believe Gibbons and Walker chose guts over numbers. PLEASE tell me the plan is for Stroman to face the lineup twice around and pulled for Liriano. PLEASE. Regardless our offence needs to come through (sounding like a broken record I know). I don't care who's on the mound today, we need to score runs

For all we know we're up 10-0 by the 5th then Stro goes 8 strong.

My biggest fear is the offence, who's starting is a moot point, if we're tied or losing we're getting Britton for 2 games. This is a 7 inning game max, and I'm not including other pitchers coming out of the bullpen for them

Britton gives up the odd hit but the thing is he hasn't even given up a walk in his last 9 innings for even a chance to cash in lol.

It's either his gut or whatever defined roles he had already decided on. Grilli will be pitching in the 8th inning if the game is close since he's the 8th inning guy, and so on. Jays have to win in spite of Gibby, like always.

Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I'd pray to a fake deity if I thought it would make this happen. If Stro had a four hitter going? A two hitter? A no hitter, then what? I like what you bring to the board Grant, but sometimes this s*** ain't as easy as statistics. Pull Stro after twice thru the order regardless of game flow, or results? I can't get behind that.

You're right i shouldn't be surprised, I was pissed when I wrote my post because on my commute I heard Blair keep repeating that Gibbons went with his gut on this, and even Atkins basically said it was Gibbons call lol. I was thinking that the GM should have stepped in and made the decision, but they did the right thing by presenting their side and have Gibbons make the final choice. Shapiro and Atkins seem like very, very level headed, intelligent, people persons.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Starting Stroman over Liriano seems like such a boneheaded decison. If the Jays lose tonight hopefully it's the last time Gibby decides who takes the mound for this team.

Its obvious they want their guy in there but they don't rock the boat too much and gibby is the last one from the old regime still standing.

I personally love Gibby, but Liriano is the call in this game.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Cliff Floyd on MLB Network just literally said "the gut is. Better here than the analytics in my opinion" when discussing starting Stroman vs Liriano I'm not sure what to even think when a former player says something like this, especially a pretty good one. It's definitely disappointing, though I'd imagine part of it has to do with his unabashed love for Toronto and its team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I'm not sure what to even think when a former player says something like this That he's from another era, had no reason to learn about any of this and potentially consider that people have different views than you
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 That he's from another era, had no reason to learn about any of this and potentially consider that people have different views than you Pretty ironic coming from you
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Cliff Floyd on MLB Network just literally said "the gut is better here than the analytics in my opinion" when discussing starting Stroman vs Liriano Well the gut says go Liriano (his case is built upon mostly hot hand theory and non-regressed splits) and the analytics say go with Stroman so he came to the same conclusion but for a different reason in my opinion.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Pretty ironic coming from you Extremely lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Pretty ironic coming from you I can't imagine why you'd think this
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 CLOSE THIS THREAD. all that matters is that we win now cant have this negative discussion so close to game time.
