TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Clearly the team has checked out. Bad atmosphere in the clubhouse Edwin just looked like he more less waved goodbye to TO on the way out of the dugout. Lol I thought that too. Sad. Would way rather he come back than Bautista. Bautista couldn't leave the dugout fast enough. No sentimental goodbye from Bats. Lol
admin Site Manager Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Either way it's a win-win. Win, we get playoffs. Lose, Gibbons fired.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Prob not. Lol. Well that's exactly the attitude I want off this team. Throwing in the towel in the last month of the season can get gored by a bull.

Lol Jays fans didn't acknowledge him either....last year they were ready to crown him after the bat flip....fair weather fans........f*** em. Edited September 30, 2016 by Omar
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Oh well. NHL preseason is on now. More exciting than Jays game. What Canada vs fake hockey team doesn't excite you. Oh my god what a triumph a whole continent lmao

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Gibby is not getting fired

Governator Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Gibby is not getting fired If the Jays don't make the ALCS they have every excuse to fire him. I'd put $50 that if the Jays don't make the ALCS they'll fire him.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Why would Shatkins fire Gibby now when Gibby makes a perfect life vest to be thrown overboard when the team struggles next year They are smart. They won't waste bullets

They won't waste bullets Could be true, however, he will continue to misfire and you will never gain momentum. Proof is last year until now. Any momentum from last year has been pissed on by Gibbons on a nightly basis.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Red Sox are having issues themselves--they're about to lose 2/3 to the Yankees. At this point, it wouldn't be shocking if the Jays win at least 1 in Boston and force a game in Toronto Monday/Tuesday depending on the tiebreak situation..

They won't waste bullets I'd argue they wasted a perfectly good season keeping him on board this year. I know this is AA's team and they probably did not want to rock the boat coming off the ALCS appearance, but the win curve won't be this high again for a while, and they wasted it with a nimrod managing it. You don't know when a chance like this will come around again.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I said it before and I'll say it again. Shapiro doesn't care much what happens this year or even next This is his not his baseball team
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Funny stat: This is the 16th consecutive loss for the Jays (For games where they do NOT hit a homerun)
sdyment Verified Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Funny stat: This is the 16th consecutive loss for the Jays (For games where they do NOT hit a homerun) and the nine millionth loss in a row with zero runs ...but yeah, thats depressing...

They won't waste bullets Why are you assuming we're going to struggle next year? We have the SP staff coming back (minus Dickey) and the bullpen will be better with a few additions. We will also be shedding the likes of Saunders,Bautista and Thole. Pillar could be a possible trade candidate, especially if he wins a GG. Let's see what Shapiro will do, but i think it's safe to assume he'll be looking to develop a more consistent offense with a little less power and more contact % and speed.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I think Gibby no longer has the rolling contract year over year so he could be easily replaced by Shatkins.

It's time for Gibbons to go honestly... I said in another comment I'm not opposed to rebuilding... I'm also not opposed to restocking and trying to build a competitive team around Donaldson's next two years. Interesting to see how Shatkins builds their own roster... Don't think Gibby should manage a roster that is 50% or more Shatkins.
NixonBunt Verified Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 We got 3 games coming up that are now the entire season. Let's rally around these 3 games and then worry about gibby

Don't think Gibby should manage a roster that is 50% or more Shatkins. If Shapiro retools even moderately next year, Gibbons will be gone. The only way Gibbons is managing next year is if Shapiro basically stands pat and punts next season, which i can't see them doing. Rogers will pony up and approve the same if not a moderate payroll increase. I think Shapiro will present a solid proposal to ownership requesting a solid contract offer to Francona combined with some decent (and maybe one major) acquisitions and move forward from there. Rogers i think now understands the value of presenting a good product on the field = $$$$$$$.
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Boy did Donaldson ever look bad at the plate tonight. Either he's checked out or the hip is a lot worse than they're letting on. Wonder if he needs surgery on it.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Ah, fire the manager. The lazy mantra of the fan too stupid to understand the more complex aspects of the game.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Ah, fire the manager. The lazy mantra of the fan too stupid to understand the more complex aspects of the game. To me it's as simple as Gibbons doesn't really understand advanced statistics and that's enough to make a move for me. He certainly knows platoon splits and I assume we probably bunt fewer than most teams (despite people bitching about it). But his lineup construction is bad (in itself who really cares but it does show a lack of understanding on his part), he CLEARLY doesn't fully understand how poorly some pitchers can do when they face a batter for the 3rd or 4th time in a game, he uses his unrested closer with 4 run leads, etc. Now that said we bring in a stat-savvy manager and we'd find stuff to bitch about but I think it'd be less often.
