KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Dinner > Thole. Good, albeit small, upgrade. Small upgrade and perhaps more importantly no pitcher learning curve which wouldn't have been the case with Jimenez, McGuire or an external option. Even Kratz didn't have that much familiarity with the current staff.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 This tells me Dickey won't be on the playoff roster. Or certainly won't be starting any playoff games. Dickey's performance told me that.. And common sense.
CBlake Verified Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Guess Tole will be spending a few days in Bluefield once again.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I don't even know how good of a year Navarro is having but he's obviously a clear upgrade over Thole regardless.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I don't even know how good of a year Navarro is having but he's obviously a clear upgrade over Thole regardless. Not good, but the playoff drive will likely help energize him.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Navarro is big here as sad as it sounds. Dickey probably doesn't make the playoffs roster.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Not good, but the playoff drive will likely help energize him. Not as much as a Snickers would.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Is there any point in keeping Dickey as a long man for the playoff roster? There was that game last year where Pennington threw. But did it really matter? I don't trust him in any other bullpen role really so I think he'll be off the roster.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Anyone else think this could be a replacement of personal catchers? Navarro can catch Estrada, might give Marco a bit of a jolt late in the season.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I would have liked to see Kurt Suzuki. But I guess it makes sense to add a catcher that has caught most of our staff.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Navarro f***ing blows but whatever. He's basically free and technically an upgrade over Thole. Gibbons always seemed to think he was a good hitter so i'm a little concerned about the playing time he might get as a DH.
AttaBoy Verified Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 He's an above average backup catcaher, hasn't played like it this year but he's >>>>>>>>>>>>>> than Thole
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Is he a FA after the year? Yes he is.
Steveorama Verified Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Atkins implied that Thole might be DFA'd after Dickey's start on Sunday.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Atkins implied that Thole might be DFA'd after Dickey's start on Sunday. My erection. It will not subside.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 My erection. It will not subside. He'll clear waivers then be called back up when rosters expand. How much you wanna bet? No way Dickey won't be pitching in September Unless somehow Dickey gets traded???

BlueJays Verified Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Atkins implied that Thole might be DFA'd after Dickey's start on Sunday. Who will catch Dickey? There's no way Martin will catch him
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Are you kidding, no way he clears waivers! Would be semi-smart for someone like Boston to claim Thole just to f*** with the chemistry... We have Erik Kratz who also catches a knuckleball, so even if Thole gets claimed as a "chess move" like you guys are suggesting, we still probably see dickey pitch. Actually now that I think about it it takes 10 days to recall a DFAd player if he clears or something right? We probably see Kratz up here regardless and that would be Dickey's battery mate
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Who will catch Dickey? There's no way Martin will catch him Navarro can catch 4-5 Dickey starts, then Dickey will be left off the playoff roster.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Navarro can catch 4-5 Dickey starts, then Dickey will be left off the playoff roster. If Kratz isn't being called up I'd say Martin catches Dickey and Navarro catches Estrada
