Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Just no, man. Yeah if Navarro gets even 1 game at DH, Gibbons needs to be fired.
puphood Verified Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 It would be interesting if they plan on using him with Estrada as they are bringing him back in Baltimore with Estrada pitching the first game.....Thole tonight gets 3 hits.....
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 100% chance Gibby asked for Navarro
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Yeah if Navarro gets even 1 game at DH, Gibbons needs to be fired. Already heard Gibby say.."and we'll ya know...he can hit".
AttaBoy Verified Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Already heard Gibby say.."and we'll ya know...he can hit". To Gibby's credit he was hitting for a little while there but I think being a fat ass finally caught up to him.

True, he is in decline. He had a 2.1 WAR 100 wRC+ here in 2014. Better yrs offensively before that. But the last 2 years he has been below league avg. He was horrible for the ChiSox. For some reason I'm glad to see him back though. Maybe the reason is called Thole.
Slider Verified Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Yes. No Dickey for postseason. f***ing good news I sure hope so! I was shocked when I found out Navarro is coming back. Will be interesting to see how he does.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I look forward to seeing him bat cleanup. FFS. I only wrote this as a joke. I figured that with the whole lineup healthy, it wouldn't actually happen.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 FFS. I only wrote this as a joke. I figured that with the whole lineup healthy, it wouldn't actually happen. Gibbons trolled you good. The sad part is it worked out once so we might see it a lot more.

He went 1-3 with a walk. That s*** will keep happening now. I hope you're happy. By the way, I officially hate this trade now. Kratz should have been the back-up catcher in September. Or AJ Jimenez.

Sadly I think you are right on the other point. 1 for 3 and a walk is nothing... didnt Pillar sport that same line? and no one wants him batting fourth. I think Gibbons just has a thing for people with big bellies like his.

Being familiar with the staff is a huge plus He's also a better hitter than Kratz or Jimenez and loved in the clubhouse. So what if he went 1-3 with a walk? That's fine, probably better than Smoak.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 With the weekend the Jays had, rbi single and a walk is fine.. I just don't want to see him hitting cleanup.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Navarra is replacement level overall, but it always does seem like he's Mr Clutch when he needs to be.

I think Gibbons just has a thing for people with big bellies like his. And Navarro might be the worst defensive catcher in baseball. They both suck; however, one of them wouldn't have been inserted in the cleanup position for ABSOLUTELY no reason whatsoever. That move is as erroneous as Ausmus putting Aybar 2nd.

I really doubt that.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Well there was a reason behind it. He hits Archer well and he hit him well that day too. So no, it's not as bad as batting the worst hitter in baseball 2nd day in and day out. Batter vs pitcher means zilch. I think Navarro 4th is worse than Aybar 2nd considering the surrounding lineup and other options for DH.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Navarro v. Archer relative to the rest of our hitters v. Archer is too much to ignore even in small sample size. Jays hitters have .579 OPS against him even with Navarro's .939 in there. SLG stabilizes in 320 AB, 460 PA for obp. No Blue Jay batter has more than 47 AB vs Archer in their career, so there's not a lot of information coming from the OPS numbers vs archer. Best we can say from the data presented is that the data is inconclusive. We need better, different stats to determine the real answer to the question "Navarro v. Archer relative to the rest of our hitters v. Archer"
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 This took an interesting turn. How many times does Gibby have to bat Navarro cleanup to be equivalent to Aybar 2nd day in and day out??? now that's the question! (BTW - I wasn't really considering once vs. day in an day out....just in general.)
