Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 He was tasked with getting 3 outs and got them. Our defense throughout this series has been the cause of our problems, not the pitching. 2 outs... Cecil sucked the bag.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 In what world did Cecil not do his job? He got what should have been 3 consecutive outs and looked good doing it. Everytime you stretch your pitchers with continued defensive lapses, you expect the other team to take advantage eventually and that's what happened in all 3 of these games. It's unacceptable. We can get by with a pitching slump or hitting slump, but not being focused and missing routine plays will kill us. Did you watch the game? The ball took a big bounce, it wasn't a routine play; that is why it was called a single, not an error.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I guess the importance of playing good D is lost on this forum. Cecil has a decent 3.49 xFIP, but we continue to blame him for all of our other issues. I give up.

That's kind of remarkable.

Blame Gibbons if you don't think he should face a righty next time. His job is to not throw juicy meatballs.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 He should have gotten the batter to hit that weak grounder to another fielder. What was he thinking! It was a slow bouncing ball that took a bad bounce. Goins had to come in on the ball to have a chance to throw Lindor out. With a fast runner like Lindor, a sharply hit grounder would have been an easier chance. If it was such a routine play then why didn't Travis throw it to 1B since the ball went right to Travis; obviously Travis held onto the ball because Lindor can get down the baseline so fast.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 at least we got some scrub teams coming in....
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 2 outs... Cecil sucked the bag. A whole bag of dicks. When we lose. We lose badly.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I was hoping that Cecil would have a good game but when Buck Martinez mentioned that maybe Cecil could pitch 2 innings and close the game out, I had a feeling that something bad would happen.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Also, I don't know why you guys are saying this was a bad series. This series was awesome, even though the jays were on the bad end of things. If you didn't enjoy watching this series, you don't truly appreciate the sport.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Damn. 600+ people online right now and like 96% are guests lol.

People have the right to be mad when we're well positioned to win all 3 games and come up with 1.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 How can you trust someone like Cecil in the playoffs. You don't.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Garbage. Giving me bad memories of Chavez.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Lol wtf. Stroman gives up 1 run through 7.1 innings, and Cecil gives up 2 runs in 2/3rds of an inning. Clearly Stroman is the problem. Hurrr durrr

Okay so Goins is responsible for the extra pitches, which puts him on the hook for Cecil's home run, but doesn't get him the credit for the strikeout Cecil then made. Cecil gets the praise for the out after the error but doesn't deserve criticism for the home run. That's on the "extra pitches" Goins caused. Okay. We can get by with a pitching slump or hitting slump, but not being focused and missing routine plays will kill us. Really? Because a breakout offensive game would have reduced the home run's impact. If the Jays were leading 5-1 instead of 2-1 the home run wouldn't have been decisive. The tough offensive game did, in fact, contribute to the margin for error. (Which is why I roll my eyes at the 1-run game crowd who don't realize the 70-win Blue Jays have taken lots of close games and run away with them -- the best way to ensure victory.) TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I don't think I've ever heard Grant be as negative about a Jay. You know Goins is useless when...
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Just reading what happened today. Am I ever glad I missed this one. Sounds like another good Stro start and quiet bats again. Cecil has been a lot better. BABIP hasn't been good to him. Didn't see it but it sucks he gave up another high leverage dinger. Still think we should extend him. Buy low. We have seen how effective he can be and nothing fundamentally has changed with his stuff.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 There's a difference between being angry that the Jays lost, and saying that the games sucked. Probably but losing sucks. Therefore when you don't win the game sucked. It doesn't mean the game sucked from an entertainment stand point. Just that it really sucks losing like that.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 There's a lot of really dumb dictation here of how someone should or should not feel when watching a game. Who the f*** cares?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Tough go, will have to take it out on the Angels this week.

rancher Verified Member Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Jay's strike out numbers are horrible. Looks like the pitching coach is not doing his job. Even Gibby agrees that swinging for the fences is not the way to go. Games like these are winnable if only there were more patience at the plate form all including Donaldson and Saunders.

WTF? This guy can do whatever he wants up there. Saunders, that's another horror story.
rancher Verified Member Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 With 3and 2 on Donaldson he will reach for a low and outside pitch more times than nought to either strike out or foul tip. He needs to start letting them go. Walks are as good as singles. Donaldson? WTF? This guy can do whatever he wants up there. Saunders, that's another horror story.
