The person spoke only on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the talks.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Knew it!!! Wants an extension so he can secure long term placement for his family. Some players hate the constant moving, look at Brandon Phillips this year, rejected going back to Dusty Baker in a place where he's gaurenteed a playoff hunt He wanted to use the no trade option as a negotiating tool to get paid better now and take the injury risk out of it! Lets not pretend it's about anything else.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 LOL @ trading for Lucroy but guaranteeing him a starting catcher spot for 2017. How stupid
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Indians: "Hey Jon! We just traded a haul of prospects for you. Glad to have you on board" Lucroy: "Are you going to rip up my 2017 option so I can get a new deal?" Indians: "No." Lucroy: "If I am here in 2017 will I be the everyday catcher?" Indians: "Well, we have Yan Gomes, so that is not for certain." Lucroy: "..."

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I don't really blame Lucroy in this situation. Pay me and make me the guaranteed catcher. If not, f*** off.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Pretty derpy of the Indians to not guarantee him the 2017 starting gig. I mean he's unarguably a top 5 catcher not matter how you look at it.

Why give up a bounty to acquire a top flight catcher if you can't guarantee him a starting job the following year?

Why give up a bounty to acquire a top flight catcher if you can't guarantee him a starting job the following year. A players performance should dictate playing time. If he blows ass in Cleveland they shouldn't be obligated to give him a starting role. Odds are he would be the #1, but guaranteeing it? Can't really blame am organization for not wanting to sign away flexibility.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Can he Catch a Knuckleball??? Does he have options Left??? Would he be a upgrade to Martin this year and moving forward??? If or is Martin tradable if you eat Half or a Third of his Salary? What could one get if you traded Martin ? Starter, Reliever, prospect wise???

Can't really blame am organization for not wanting to sign away flexibility. I mean sure I agree to an extent, but when it comes to a guy like Lucroy who is elite at his position, you should be pretty safe offering him a starting job next year even if he completely tanks the rest of this season.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 It's 1.5 years. Suck it up and play for a championship. This is the stuff that costs people money in free agency. He wants the Mets.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Apparently the Jays have inquired about Josh Reddick

fireballW Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Would be pretty sweet to get both.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Would be pretty sweet to get both. Sure would.
skirbs11 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 So if we make a move for both Reddick and Hill, What does that do for our OF. Saunder, Pillar, Bautista, Upton and Reddick. Someone has to be on the move.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Smart decision. Otherwise what is the point of having a no trade claise if everyone just expects you'll waive it for nothing. I am very big on a contract is a contract. What is Lucroy's trade value based on him only having a contract until the end of this year? Certainly not three prospects. Have it be known ahead of time that you are going to play that kind of a negotiation tactic and teams will base their trades on that knowledge...instead of having it go public. As much as it's smart on his part...it's also stupid cause he has to know that Cleveland is going to say "f*** you" every single time.
Praxis Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Hill I get, but why Reddick? We just traded for Upton and he's only under contract for this year.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Saunders in LF, Pillar in CF, Reddick in RF, Bautista at DH, Upton 4th OF, Carrera gone? That's the only way that lineup would make sense, but Reddick seems a bit unnecessary right now. If he was signed beyond 2016, then absolutely. But as a rental, it would seem pointless unless an OF was going the other way.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 He wants the Mets. Then say too (I know he can't publicly) don't throw out some scenario that the Indians would be fools to accept.
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 It is VERY unlikely Jose would waive his ntc but I think it would be a pretty sweet move to trade Bautista and trade for Reddick, assuming we would get star prospects back for Bautista.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Josh Reddick is my wet dream. Yes please we can absolutely make it work. Basically Saunders and Bautista can rotate at DH in the field. Platoon Reddick and Upton. Peace out Zeke. Donaldson and Reddick reunited and it feels so good
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 If Reddick is traded here, I'd be really confused. What would our lineup look like? Reddick Donaldson EE Saunders Bautista Tulowitzki Martin Pillar Travis Upton, Barney, Smoak, Thole on the bench?

Reddick Donaldson EE Saunders Bautista Tulowitzki Martin Pillar Travis Upton, Barney, Smoak, Thole on the bench? He would not lead off but you got the players right. Bautista Donaldson EE Saunders Tulo Reddick Martin Pillar Travis Is the likely scenario against righties. Upton would play aginst lefties instead of Reddick or Saunders.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Get 2 months of Reddick mashing RHP. Give yourself a negotiating window. Playoff run. Josh Donaldson and him are a close. Hes a guy I thought we would chase in the off-season. We can get an extension done. As long as the prospect price you do that deal even without Rich Hill.

I just really dislike Bautista's average for a lead off guy, although he does walk often
