ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 That makes zero sense Osuna provided 1.3 fWAR out of the pen last year and 1.6 thus far this season. As a comparison, Kevin Pillar and Devon Travis have combined to give the team about 11 fWAR over the same span. That's just an example, it doesn't mean that they will get guys PROJECTED to give you what Pillar and Travis have. I would definitely take a Clint Frazier plus a lesser prospect than Sheffield for Osuna.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Lol Lucroy didn't accept the trade

If they keep blowing games it's single handedly in their hands no?
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Wow. Could have gone from a last place re-builder to a likely division winner. Lucroy must really not like the cities on his no-list.

He probably wants to go to a team that can extend him so he and his family can live in a place permanently
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Lol Lucroy didn't accept the trade FU, Cleveland! Haha haha. Even as contenders they suck.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Really glad they didn't get Lucroy. I wonder whose on his partial no trade clause.

You have to look it based on WAR efficiency as well. You can't have two center fielders can you? If you already have Pillar and Travis what good will another centre fielder or second baseman do? You can't have two of them on the field. Where as once Osuna is gone you can say goodbye to that 2 WAR reliever with no one to replace him with. Virtually you have a incremental WAR loss overall if you make that transaction Also prospects are not guaranteed. Pillar was projected as a AAAA player and Tigers traded Travis for what they thought was a 4th outfielder Where as Smoak was going to be the next Mark Tiexara and Jesus Montero was going to win MVP awards with his bat

He probably wants to go to a team that can extend him so he and his family can live in a place permanently It's 1.5 years. Suck it up and play for a championship. This is the stuff that costs people money in free agency.

Hey I'm not agreeing with him, but he has a no trade clause so he has rights to think family first. He also may have another offer on the table, the mets were interested. NY is a better place and he improves chances to make the post season and they have money to extend him. He could be trying to force Milwalkee's hands. Which of course is going to strain relations but it's his right

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I wonder if Lucroy wanted to work this deal in order to get an extension, or get the Indians to waive their right to the option and cash in the free agency
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Do you think a blown save is -1 WAR? No it's not that I think that it should be traded as X WAR, I just think it's silly to use the same measure for a starter for a reliever. I think relief pitchers are worth more/less than WAR suggests Then again I could be talking out of my ass, I don't know about sabermetrics enough
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Why didn't we try to add Zach Duke, seemed like the perfect fit.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Can a player really discriminate on being traded to teams who have the potential funds for a re-sign? Even big money teams don't always re-sign players. There's usually a bidding war in which some other team offers the best deal anyway. So if it's just about cash and comfort, it's hard to predict another team's plans two years in the future anyway. He must really just hate Cleveland as a city.

I think relief pitchers are worth more/less than WAR suggests Then again I could be talking out of my ass, I don't know about sabermetrics enough WAR needs to take importance of those innings to the result of the game into account. Same with hitters. The importance of a plate appearance relative to the result of the game should be taken into account. Instead of using a catch all formula, they should devise a weighted average formula, that distributes a win to the winning team in order of performance. -1 Win should go to the losing team.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 . He must really just hate Cleveland as a city. Cleveland sucks, but so does Milwaukee.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 This is a serious question, can judge a reliever by WAR? Especially w closer? If they keep blowing games it's single handedly in their hands no? I didn't realize they removed the fielders for the 9th. Kenley Jensen has blown 5 saves in 36 chances this year...Kyle Barraclough has blown just 1 in 19. Every reliever gives up runs, when you give them up changes how the fans view them but it shouldn't change how you use them in the future. Good relievers should be good in all situations.

No but championships should be your goal...and I doubt that is the case for Lucroy. Word is that he wants the team to get rid of the option year and negotiate now.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Cleveland might be a dump, but I guarantee there are still cake eater parts where he and his family would fit in just fine.

I don't see any reason to move to a place you think you would be less happy.

Word is that he wants the team to get rid of the option year and negotiate now. Knew it!!! Wants an extension so he can secure long term placement for his family. Some players hate the constant moving, look at Brandon Phillips this year, rejected going back to Dusty Baker in a place where he's gaurenteed a playoff hunt

I don't see any reason to move to a place you think you would be less happy. that's fine...but don't expect everyone to give you a huge payday. He is making a statement now, and he's going to get paid when he is a free agent. But there will be teams that now say "he chose to not go for a championship and used it as a personal negotiation tactic". In turn they will not make him an offer when he is a free agent. Some team that doesn't care will get him for a lower price, but there are still enough teams that care. Look at the number of GM's that talk about "the interview phase" in the free agency market.
