Pete Walker probably loves how Cashner uses his big time arm to pitch to contact...

Make fun of him if you wish, but Pete Walker hasn't gotten enough credit for the superb job he has done with our pitchers. Consistent mechanics means consistent performance and good health, which we've had.

Jays should act like they really want him so the Padres skip him and have some scrub start instead. Then after he's skipped they say well we aren't so sure anymore..

Cause we always do so well against scrubs

I'd be very surprised if he starts against us tonight, it's too risky for the Pads.

He might start for the Jays tonight!

What type of control is Cashner under?

He's a FA at the end of teh season.

Also, he will almost certainly pitch out of the bullpen with the possibility of being an insurance starter if one of the current starters(and maybe Hutchison too) go down.

Speculating on the return for te padres...what do you think the return would be like?

Something like Rios maybe?

Something like Rios plus some others of that level?

You think it would be that much? We're gonna use him as a reliever and as insurance. And does he have that much value in the market?

That's the type I would expect from a normal team, but given that Shatkins just robbed them of Upton for peanuts...you never know

I'm a little surprised that the Padres are letting Cashner go through with this start.

Why? Deadline is still a couple of days away, so why not showcase him one last time? Especially if he can put together a strong start vs. one of the best lineups in baseball, even better. Unless a team was close to acquiring him and they told the Padres to not start Cashner because they knew a deal was imminent, I don't see the harm in the Padres starting him.

He has been gross this season though - replacement level - so there's not much to lose by letting him start.

If he can shut down Toronto then maybe his value ticks up.
