Cyborg Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I like the Zoik pick. I really like his age for a college guy. He seems like a pick that is both safe and projectable, which is awesome. Woodman lead the SEC in dingers so I'll defer to the scouts and just assume the public reports saying that he has no plus tools are wrong. Bichette looks terrible on video. Bad body, bad face, bad swing. I don't really get that pick buttttttt I only watched one 90 second video so. Bichette is a MIF that already has good power in HS.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Bichette is a MIF that already has good power in HS. From the video he's only nominally a MIF though. He seems fat and slow. Maybe his hands are sweet and the body doesn't matter much. Power also comes with a goofy load and he can't even seem to hit high school fastballs inside. My uninformed prediction is that he's an org guy 3B/LF
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The Jays will rebuild his entire swing I'm sure, just like they seem to rebuild every pitchers delivery.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Bichette is a chubby MIF. Jedd Gyorko kind of guy
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Which major-leaguer, current or former, would you compare your game to the most? "I would say, as a hitter, probably Josh Donaldson. He's really aggressive, swings as hard as he can. That's one of my goals every time I'm hitting, to let it loose. As a defender, someone like Troy Tulowitzki. He plays through-balls all the time, I do that quite a bit. I'd say those two guys." - Bichette, before the draft. What are your expectations heading into the draft? Which teams have shown specific interest in you? "I have high hopes. Hopefully it'll be a good night. There are a few teams-- the Rockies, the Blue Jays and Red Sox really like me. There are obviously more, but those are who I thought of."

WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I wonder why Bo thinks the Jays are best for his development. His brother and father are very aware of what to expect from a minor league development standpoint so there must be some truth to that.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 OF Nick Banks profile stood out to me amongst some of the best available, always get intrigued when I see a term like "best pure hitter" "Part of a stellar U.S. collegiate national team outfield with Louisville's Corey Ray and Florida's Buddy Reed last summer, Banks can't quite match their tools, but he did establish himself as the best pure hitter on the squad. He led Team USA in hitting (.386) and on-base percentage (.491) and projected as a mid-first-round pick. He hasn't been the same since having a cyst removed from his lower back last fall, however, with multiple scouts noting that he has looked stiff and his tools have regressed this spring. At his best, Banks employs a sleek left-handed swing and delivers line drives from gap to gap. He has above-average raw pop and started to become more aggressive and drive the ball more often in 2015. He hasn't looked as fluid or powerful during a disappointing regular season this year but did help his cause by winning the Southeastern Conference tournament MVP award in late May in front of a bevy of scouts. While Banks showed solid speed and arm strength with Team USA, both tools have elicited fringe-average grades in 2016. He profiled well as a right fielder in the past, but now scouts don't know what to make of him. A club that gives him the benefit of the doubt for past performance could take him in the first three rounds."

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I find that everyone is best pure something in those scouting reports. True to an extent, but I think leading that group in hitting should be something to take note of. Just liked the sounds of the healthy scouting report from last year.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Zach Jackson...didn't we draft a similar named lefty like that ages ago?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Quick to the big leagues reliever. That hammer curve looked nice from the video.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Give me all of your College players!
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I just complained this morning that we never seem to pick college closers, Jackson sounds like a great pick.
WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Zach Jackson...didn't we draft a similar named lefty like that ages ago? The legend of Justin Jackson, I think 2006 or 2007.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 http://i.imgur.com/t1bGKhP.png BB/9 is terrible and the reports aren't that great either on Jackson. Pure upside pick, I guess.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I just complained this morning that we never seem to pick college closers, Jackson sounds like a great pick. Callis said a guy he can see being one of the first players in this draft in the big leagues. I am always intrigued by guys who can move quickly. They said he had a feel for a changeup but was mainly fastball and curveball.

Yikes, the numbers don't really paint a great picture. The analysts seemed to think he could be a quick to the majors guy
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The Phillies just drafted a guy named JoJo Romero. You can't make this stuff up.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 9m9 minutes ago Not buying Zach Jackson being a quick mover. Lot of work to go on delivery/control. JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 9m9 minutes ago Lot of outings this year Zach Jackson could throw breaking ball for strikes, no hope of throwing FB for strikes. Frankie Piliere @FPiliereD1 10m10 minutes ago #BlueJays take a nice gamble on Zach Jackson. 93-96, one of the best plus breaking balls in the class. Command plagued him this spring jeff ellis @jeffMLBdraft 11m11 minutes ago Zach Jackson has one of the best pitches in this class, but man command has been an issue his entire career
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Yikes, the numbers don't really paint a great picture. The analysts seemed to think he could be a quick to the majors guy It's hard to see that unless he can iron out his command issues in quick order.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
