Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Bob Nightengale Rougned Odor informed that he has received an 8 game suspension, as anticipated, but will appeal per @JonHeyman
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 after appeal, 6-7 games only how does that work... and why would they agree to that when he's getting less than what Barrett got 10 years ago?
intrigid Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 So they're not announcing all the suspensions at the same time?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 after appeal, 6-7 games only Precedent says 8 games minimum is about right for throwing punches. I doubt it would be reduced but I guess there's a chance
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 So they're not announcing all the suspensions at the same time? Well they will, this is probably just leaked from players / teams after they were informed.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 8 games is probably on the low end of what's acceptable. In a vacuum I'm fine with that but I wonder if this means Bautista is getting more blame than we think he will. Anything more than a game for him is pretty egregious IMO.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Bautista better not receive any more than 1 game, and even that is ridiculous.

More than 1 game is too much? He gets less because he got clocked? Do you think he wasn't gonna throw? He's just as guilty He should get something for the slide first, then for the fight. Think about it, instead of being a bias fan, be realistic

Think about it, instead of being a bias fan, be realistic It's arguable that Odor was trying to take JB's head off with the throw as well, so perhaps the slide was reactionary to that. Either way, a slide like that has yet to receive a suspension in the MLB this year (only gets ruled as a DP), so why would it receive one now?
catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 ya, you're right. contact wasn't made with the slide, regardless of intent. the slide didn't make contact but odor did. so that's good enough. the no contact argument is really lame. he's so full of crap when he said he could have injured him but didn't. he totally intended to.

Hilarious
catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 watch it close, it's not a reactionary slide. he knew exactly what he was doing the minute he took off. he wasn't going in standing up,

What should he get old wise one? He got beaned in the ribs and punched in the face for pimping a game changing home run 6 months ago...which could have been avoided if the butt-hurt Rangers didn't play t-ball baseball in the most important game of the year prior to it.
catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 its not about hate prior. do I like him as a player? no. do I respect him as a player? yes. he has great skills. but to constantly defend him when he is wrong, don't cut it. in this specific case, he was totally intending on hurting him. these guys are pros, you got dinged, it's over. you want respect give respect. my question is, and be objective, do you think he was going to throw a punch? I think he was. Would odor get 8 games if he missed with his punch? not likely. I'm not saying odor should get less, I am saying it took 2 to tango here, he is not totally innocent. that's all I am saying.
metafour Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Do you think he wasn't gonna throw? He's just as guilty No, he wasn't. Jose's antics are all psychological (staring players down, talking s***, etc). He's a smart player; he's not stupid enough to risk an 8+ game suspension by throwing a punch (which he KNOWS is a big no-no) because another player shoved him in the chest. Even when you look at the stills of the punch you can see that his right hand doesn't even come close to forming a "fist" until he's already been hit...and even then you can easily claim that its just the body's natural instinct to tense up after being struck. He was as surprised as everyone else that Odor was actually willing to start swinging over that incident.
catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 an earlier posting said it might have been a reactionary slide to the throw.. no, it wasn't

You're arguing he should be suspended for posturing up after the slide and thinking about punching him? Look who's biased
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 If Jose wanted to injure Odor, why slide at all? He could have just tackled him old-school style.
