bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 When I think of baseball as a whole I don't see it as being as much of a team-game as much as sports like Basketball, Soccer, Football or hockey. The beauty in baseball is the continuing one on one battles between the pitcher and batter. Of course defense matters, and it takes a team effort for everyone to produce. It's a hard thing to articulate and perhaps I should try before drinking several daiquiri's, but I'm just killing a little time before I head out. Its cool man have fun. I have a working theory that people with Stroman avis are douches.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I really like Stroman. Fun guy to watch on the mound. I do admit that I believe he's been overrated by the media. I just don't see him having ace stuff like he's portrayed to have. Sanchez is the guy I'm really expecting big things from.

Someone got in his head and told him to pitch to contact and now he doesn't look as dominating as he was from 2012-2014. This is who Stroman was before someone "fixed" him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g8JdhNGQsc
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I'm impressed by the guys natural ability. I like what I've seen, but you have to remember that he hasn't pitched a full season in the league. Often times minor-leaguers will come up and look super impressive until the 2nd or 3rd time they face a cast of guys. I won't come to conclusions this early in a season, but if you do look at Stromans stats for the season they're actually pretty average.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I want to see the exit velocity on that Donaldson calamity. That was absolutely obliterated. Looks like the exit velocity was 111.8 mph with a distance of 445 ft via Statcast.

For this season, his stats are extremely mediocre, but in 2014 he pitched 130 innings in the majors and looked pretty great, dominating at times. He was primed for a breakout until he blew out his knee and Buerhle/Walker/whomever convinced him to "pitch to contact" when he returned.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Just watched the game now. Sanchez looked really good in the first few innings but his velo dropped a ton by the 6th inning. He was 91-92 touching 93 in the 6th after being 95-97 early in the game. Kinda scary bringing him back out for the 7th when you see that.

I'm curious as to why that's happening in this start, yet his velocity remained throughout his 1st start of the season? He's either already tired, only 6 starts in, or he's holding back in favour of control?

He looked to be throwing harder than usual the first 3 innings so maybe he just didn't pace himself.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 It's all about control...he slows down a few mph once he loses his release point to a few batters
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Did anyone play RBI baseball for NES as a kid? If you're Nolan Ryan and only throw 101mph fastballs, well by the 4th inning you're topping out at 65mph. By the 6th, 50mph. So that proves Sanchez needs to throw less fastballs. I'll show myself out.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Interesting.... Sanchez 1st start against TB is not his highest game score. The April 17 was his highest game score at 72, followed by last night at 70. The 1st start was 69.

It actually looked like he was mixing speeds, he was throwing 92-94 and then 96-97 even in the 7th.

flafson Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Was he? I don't remember seeing that, but you could be correct. I just looked at Brooks and he did hit 96 2-3 times out of 10 pitches in the 7th. But overall it does look like his velocity was trending down towards the end of his game, hard to say if it was because he was getting tired or because he was trying to mix it up. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=4&day=29&year=2016&game=gid_2016_04_29_tormlb_tbamlb_1%2F&pitchSel=592717&prevGame=gid_2016_04_29_tormlb_tbamlb_1%2F&prevDate=429&league=mlb In his first 40 pitches he was hitting 98. From 41-60 he was hitting 97 and 61-101 he was hitting 96.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Looks like last night was a pretty good game. Another 8 strikeouts though.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Sorry, if folk listened last week he brought up a lethargic BABIP, I was going to say something about his near and over 600 BABIP in the first 2 weeks, even if he could meet a medium, league medium the player is far worse. Replacement level. That's what Goins will be if he doesn't step his BB% back up. Otherwise, useless. Stick up for him, Gruber. You really must have tied one on last night hey Spank?

Best NES baseball game is Baseball Stars http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/missnovember79/old%20school%20video%20games/Nintendo_Baseball_Stars2.jpg It was one of the first games where you could name your players, have seasons and do things like dive for the ball, climb the fence to steal a homerun. Gameplay was miles ahead of other games too

TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 That's right! and on each player you could do things like check out their stamina rate and other qualities. Really quite a groundbreaking game. I haven't played it in over 20 years. Almost makes me wanna go buy an NES again and track it down
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Like I said, just get an android nes emulator and you can play any Nintendo game you want
