Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I can't imagine to better off season FA signings than Happ and Estrada. I know AA left a bunch of recommendations to the new FO before he left. It'd be interesting to see if he recommending signing either of those two. I believe I remember reading that AA and his staff were researching Happ last August/September....targeting him for the offseason.

SSS - or is he nibbling more?
Cyborg Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Any thoughts on why Estrada's BB/9 has gone up so much this season? SSS - or is he nibbling more? Combo of three things. Zone rate down, O-swing rate slightly down, and Contact rate down. With more Ks usually comes more BB's due to less balls in play to end PAs.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Crap. One of the few things we have been lucky with is the overall play of Zeke with a .8 WAR to date. Cant ask for much more than that from a 4th OF at league min.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Starting to get the annoying "Vote For Blue Jays!" all star stuff I can't think of anyone who really deserves to make it other than Osuna
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 I don't think any of the position players (all you can vote for of course) deserve it And Edwin's head looks like it's going fall off
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Still trying to figure out the our bullpen has or is being overused comment by Gibbons or does the front office believe this also??? We have only used them for 134 innings, the top five innings pitch by relievers average is 180, top five by ERA is 153 and in both cases neither have played or average 53 games! So is the bullpens struggles overuse Or underuse the issue to overall performance or sharpness of our pen?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Let's start a write in Vote for Spanky!
puphood Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Well also he has that Dickey inning where he can't find the strike zone. I would tend to agree however I would say it is more that he seems to loose control of a specific pitch and continues to try and get that pitch in for a strike. As a big fan of Estrada I wouldn't crisis his control as he seems to usually get it together and pull it off in the end unlike Dickey.......

Oh far from it man, big fan, I never miss an Estrada start.

gojays99 Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Just saw a quote from Jose saying he would be stupid to leave the Jays in free agency
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Ummm, Josh Donaldson? No http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=11493&position=3B
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 I love Donaldson as much as anyone on here But Machado has been as good or better in literally every important category. And worth a lot more WAR. It sucks but he's been better

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Machado has played more games at SS than at 3B True, but it doesn't matter. Machado is listed under 3B for voting choices Edit: Oh, in terms of WAR it would though...
ChrisS Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I don't count the stats of a league where 11.11% of the at bats are automatic outs Its even more remarkable when you consider he pitches in more hitter friendly ballparks

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Offense slowly turning a corner. Starting pitching continues to perform strong. Barney and Carrera providing decent play off the much maligned bench. Biagini, Floyd, etc. stabilizing the bullpen. Cecil starting to throw. Shatkins just made a nifty trade. Should pass the O's for 2nd place sometime in the next week or two at this rate. Man what a difference two weeks makes. Feels good.
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 They finished 11-3. Err they finished 9-3 after being swept by Tampa. 3-1@Twins, 2-1@Yankees, 2-1 v Red Sox and 2-0 so far against the Yankees
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 6-2 so far in the 12-game Yanks-Sox gauntlet. I was really worried about this stretch. I was pretty unconvinced after the rickety 3/4 from in Minnesota, but I am so happy the team has upped its game.
