Governator Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Why trade Dickey? Our depth isn't that great. We've basically got one big league starter in AAA and that guy is already slated to return to the rotation once Sanchez heads to the bullpen. If anything I say we extend Dickey right now. 1 year, 8 mil with an option for 8 mil again and a 1 mil buyout. He's been a good pitcher for us. If Russell Martin breaks down and not able to catch 130 games like we're hoping he does this year, you want Thole to step in as our guy? We might not have pitching depth but we sure as hell don't have catching depth. I'm totally done with Dickey.

The idea that Thole and Dickey are siamese twins and must be on the same team together is a fallacy. Dickey has used several catchers throughout his career. We can find a better backup C who can also catch the knuckleball. No one likes Dickey because he's goofy looking and annoying as f*** to watch pitch but I don't give a s*** about that stuff. He's effective for a backend SP and he provides the "Dickey Effect" on top of it.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Well Chavez is still able to join the rotation as well as Hutch.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Well Chavez is still able to join the rotation as well as Hutch. I forgot about that but converting him to a starter midseason could be tricky. Does he have options?

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Girodo sent to Buffalo. After he failed to retire anybody on Sunday, and struggled last week in NY, it's no surprise. Tepera still up (for now).. at least until they need a position player.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 First, could Hutch come close to what Dickey can offer for 2016? I was assuming that we would need Hutch to fill in for Sanchez when he gets moved to the pen. Not sure what the sequence would be if we needed to dip into starting depth beyond Hutch.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 Yes , Chavez or Floyd could start, but then you have BP holes. I.suppose you could trade for a quality long relief guy to compensate. Regardless I don't think Dickey is going anywhere this year. But he probably gets a 1 year deal somewhere next year if he wants it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 It still doesn't replace the abysmal thought of watching Dickey pitch another year. See this is the main argument against Dickey. He's annoying to watch. I mean I get it but running a team that way doesn't make sense.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 f***in knew it. Gibby going to throw Grili right into the fire late in the game even though his numbers say he isn't good.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 f***in knew it. Gibby going to throw Grili right into the fire late in the game even though his numbers say he isn't good. Well... depends on the situation. Ex. an open bag to protect against his walks, his K% is legit.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Cut Grilli some slack! He's recovering from an injury, and only his April was really bad.. he's been significantly better in May.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Is last month says he is just as good as anyone not named Osuna in that pen. No it doesn't. Biagini, Storen, Osuna were all better and he was barely better than Floyd.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 His projections say he is good so why not? Implying Gibbons actually looked at his projections, not his ERA from years past.

Not like he is Leon. Put him in some leverage situations against RHH, and hope his walk issues are behind him.

And that he doesn't give up a HR. 60%FB rate last month with lots of hard contact. I do think his experience will help as the pen doesn't really have that Latroy Hawkins type down there.

When you look at K/BB rate you don't know whether you are getting Delabar V2 or something similar to the arm he was.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 This pretty much sums up the irrational Dickey hate on this board. Not Irrational I don't want him taking up two spots on my team! Besides as it stands if every pitcher continues at there currant pace for 32 starts we have four other pitchers on this team that will reach 200 innings before him! The fact you think Dickey will sign for 8 mill per year and take a 4 mill per year pay cut, when this is one the weakest free agent markets in years is somewhat laughable!!! Add in his pet monkey and forget it, move on with a rookie and get a better younger catcher who can grow and learn from Martin while he is here. Also the money saved can be used to help plug holes with the exodus we might be headed for this off season as well !!! I don't hate Dickey, I thank him for teaching me tolerance to not throw things at my Tv when he pitches anymore! Lol and what he has done for our team! Just no more, please!!!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I'm pretty pumped that Dickey has been moved up to Friday. The wife and I have tickets to the Saturday and Sunday games. Was kind of bummed about a Dickey start (not that Stroman is a guaranteed win or anything).

Can confirm, of the two Jays games I've been to, one was a dickey start. Albeit not a terrible one, 2 run jack in the first to morales and nothing more. Too bad we lost 2-0
